I think ds's nappy rash might have become infected :-(

He's had a couple of patches on his bottom that have been red and sore for a few days. But yesterday they felt a bit hard, and the top layer of skin appears to be peeling off

I have been changing him regularly, applying metanium each change, and bathing him daily too. But today he is really out of sorts, off his food and whingy.

I am taking him to the docs in the morning but is there anything else I should be doing just now?

Poor wee soul

Miaou · 12/11/2006 15:56

Yes to washables, no to silk liner - just got fleece ones.

have you got any calomile tea?

Miaou · 12/11/2006 16:00

Nope

Nowhere near any shops either!

Any more advice anyone? I know it's a bad time to ask (Sunday afternoon an' all ...)

just try to keep it as clean and dry as possible.

Nemo1977 · 12/11/2006 16:27

have you been putting sudocrem on over the metanium?? I have done it this week as DD had nappy rash so bad it started bleeding and has really really helped.

Miaou · 12/11/2006 16:27

thanks you two.

(and Nemo, sorry missed that one)

Not put them both on, just metanium so far.

In order to keep it dry should I leave cream off for now?

I think part of the problem is that ds's wee is very strong (the ammonia smell literally makes my eyes sting when I take his nappy off) and the fact that he has taken to doing a poo during the night and not waking up, so he is lying in a dirty nappy for a while.

sometimes when dd's nappy rash gets bad I put a bit of Canesten on as my hv once said it looked a bit 'thrushy' because there were little spots

it helps; worth asking the hv though

Miaou · 12/11/2006 16:47

Hmmm, yes, am wondering if it might be thrush.

Update - took ds to the doctors this morning and he has impetigo, poor wee man! Dr said it would be caused by faeces being in contact with the broken skin from the original nappy rash. Glad I took him now - he has antibiotic cream to apply and I have to keep all the towels separate.
