I applied for funding all over the place in the run up to starting my 4 year degree this year as i wasn't entitled to any help from the gov for childcare costs and we are finding it a real struggle on my dh's relatively low wage. So yesterday i got a letter saying I can get a grant through a local scheme worth 1500 pounds a year. the only problem is I am only allowed to spend this money on course related study costs e.g books and computer equiptment etc. I do need some books and things but no way do i need 1500 pounds worth. if I don't spend 500 pounds this term I won't get anything next year. i really need the money towards bills and childcare but they say NO! has anyoine got any ideas of ways around this?

childcare not counted. Also mortgage and electricity not counted although they would if I was a young student studyingaway from home. They want receipts, yes....bah!

Will thye take photocopies of receipts because if so you could buy some stuff photocopy the recepits then take it back.

Ignore the bad typing in my last post!

gemmiegoatlegs · 27/10/2006 19:33

i wouldn't know if that would be ok. My mum suggested buying stuff and taking it back but i know places stamp the receipt these days. I feel like I am in such a bad place with all this. i don't want to abuse the kindness of people who want to give me money but I really could use the cash elsewhere.
