6 yo DD low self-esteem - suggestions for tackling or good books to read?

My 6 yo DD sometimes suffers from low self-esteem where she cries and says she can't do anything and she's the stupidiest girl in her class and all the other children are better than her etc. Apart from the fact that this is not factually true, I feel extremely sorry for her and worry about this lack of self-confidence and lack of resilience. In some ways she's quite confident, she plays well with other children and I can for instance very easily leave her at birthday parties etc. But underneath it all, she seems to be lacking in self-assurance. We praise her lots, support her in what she enjoys, try not to put any pressure on her etc but what more can I do? Any suggestions welcome - in particular I'm after some good parenting books. I read heaps of books about baby development, but not sure which child-development books are recommended?

Bumping for you as it sounds really upsetting. My DD (nearly 5) has some similarities and will talk about how other children can already swim, ride a bike etc which she can't do and get quite down about it. She is a real perfectionist (just like her father) and I think that is the cause of a lot of it. So no ideas, but I sympathse and need some ideas myself!
