When did you let your children andI'm cats sleep in the same bed?

Just curious.

At what age did you allow your cats to go into your children's room at night, to presumably crawl up and sleep with them?

Never - I don't like animals in bedrooms at all and definitely not in or on the beds

Never - we've got two cats and they are not allowed upstairs.
One word. Fleas.

Moved into a house [we didn't have cats then] to find that the place was over run with fleas. DD was 18 months and was eaten alive. It took months to get rid of them.

I hate finding pet hair on pillows/bedlinen. They could be the cleanest animal in the world, I just find it really unclean

Once there is no longer a risk of it smothering the child the cat would be allowed to sleep with our child.
Our cat sleeps in our bed. She has her own pillow but tries to steal mine. She's a siamese so they don't hardly shed and she does not have fleas. Sometimes she snores! What cat have you got OP?
Pretty much all of mine and OH's family have cats and all the cats sleep in bed, often with kids.

Me and my sister slept with our cats from about age 7 onwards, which is when we got them. Lovely furry hot water bottle. They never had fleas (and yes they did go outside).

Usually we would take them to bed with us and after we'd dropped off they'd wriggle out and head downstairs.

They were Burmese so loved people/company and not much shedding.

My cat hates the toddler so hell will freeze over before she goes near DS's bed.

I would say that I wouldn't think much after 3yrs old. I mean it's just a cat sleeping on a bed.

There is very effective treatment available for fleas, actually.

Yes I find that Stronghold drops plus the injection that sterilises fleas, forgotten the name now, works fine at eradicating and preventing flea infestations.

DS is nearly 3 and I'd have no problem letting the cats sleep on his bed. They tend to sleep snuggled up to legs anyway so there's no danger of them suffocating him and he's well big enough to shove them away if they got too close.

But it hasn't been an issue yet because they prefer our bed.

I don't think I'd worry about it except for a tiny baby. Say a year old? When DS was one the cat hated him, though.

Dd had our cat sleep on her bed as soon as she got a bed

She slept under the bed in the draws on top of the bedding in then had to re wash

And sometimes on Dds bed and sometines on mine.

I miss her

Our cat sleeps with dd2 (age 8) every night and has done since she was 3 or 4.
Our cat thinks that dd is a kitten and she puts her paw on her head and gives her a lick wash most days, she also sleeps on her head and wraps her tail around dd's neck.

So from 22 months

Our cats have slept with my DC since birth really. They never were restricted from going into the cot etc. they enjoyed going in and snuggling close.

This is my cat with her head on my pillow and my child on the other pillow. I woke up on Tuesday morning and as much as I love them both I do wonder when I'll get my bed back
