What time should my 17yr old son wake up? And should he get a job?

He goes to college 2 days a week, and every other night of the week he goes to bed after 2:00am only to wake up about 11:00 and even then I rarely see him before 2:00pm. I keep pushing for him to get a job and he says he wants one, but I never see any effort to get one. He is well behaved and mostly independent, but it annoys me that I am the only person generating an income when he could very easily but is just wasting his time either in bed or playing video games.

Yes he should. Job or work experience related to his course.

Are you me! I could have wrote this post. My ds nearly 17 has started college 2.5 days a week. The rest of the time he sleeps or plays guitar in his bedroom (music student) college has told him he can't get a job as he need to practise and maybe required to attend college the other days.

It's really frustrating as he could be out working gaining some real life experience. And earning himself some money instead of relying on the bank of mum.

How does he finance himself? And have you stopped doing all chores for him?

Are you still washing up/laundering/tidying up after him? Stop.

And gogowow there's nothing to stop him getting a job in the evenings.

OP you need to do a big piece of paper showing how much all the nice things in his life cost - phone etc - and ask him which ones he's prepared to lose as you can't afford to keep subbing him out anymore.

To be fair on ds he has applied for a few evening and weekend jobs. But they are hard to find. Maybe some Christmas work will come along soon.
