As a lead on from the 'ban party bags' thread, who had party bags as a child?

I never did. We had a bit of cake wrapped in a paper napkin and thought ourselves lucky (shades of 4 yorkshiremen sketch )

Is this because I am old, 44, or because we were poor?

so how old are you, and did you have party bags?

I can remember parties - but they were always in people's homes as GDG describes.

I can remember my Biiiig treat, I think it was my 12th, was when I got to choose 5 friends and we went to see a film.

But I can't remember that many birthday parties before then - they were probably all pretty low key. I can remember playing pass the parcel at someone's house. And singing a song at someone else's.

Aaaaah, memories!

Party bags were ace! A piece of cake, a balloon, a pencil or rubber or something and a couple of jelly sweets randomly chucked in from a huge bag of haribo that the mum in question had bought for the prizes for the whole party.

At the grand old age of almost 23 I can of course hold my head up and huff and say that in my day kids were allowed to lose at party games and we did not in fact need prizes for every kid for every game or in every layer of pass the parcel

Oh yes we always had Fox's Party Rings, iced gems, jaffa cakes, and chocolate fingers ... because we never had these things at other times of the year! They were very special party treats.

I went to lots of parties and often had party bags- not always actual bags but nearly always a going home present of some description. I'm 45, so it's not just a time thing, maybe it's area spceific?
