Getting v worried about my dissertation, which is due in on the 2nd of September... arrrgh. My kids are back from staying with their grandparents tomorrow night and I'll be looking after them daily. Though I have got a chunk of work done while they've been away and am getting back to the grindstone as soon as I've posted this, I'm definitely going to need to study every evening to get it completed. Wondered if anyone knew of libraries open late? Am VERY distractible, especially in the evenings and may need to get out of the house in order to get anything done... Also don't want to distract partner who has to do his dissertation too.

Council website normally have library opening hours.

Some of our libraries are open until 7 pm (not late really, I know) and also for a few hours on a Sunday.

have a look at www.londonlibraries.org (sorry can't get link to work). I'm thinking that plenty of the universities will have late opening hours and you might be able to arrange to use their libraries. I'm sure dh did this when he was doing his PhD a few years ago.

Thanks Seb1, Mercy and Puff. My borough libraries all close 7/8ish and my college library is similar. Really looking for somewhere open till 10 or later... Thought it was more likely for academic libraries to offer this but can't seem to find out by googling. I will look at that site, puff. Thanks.

Hiya... when my sis was at uni, her library was open 24/7... she used to stay past midnight, or even all night. Does yours not have one?

Wah! I really don't think there is anywhere from looking at puff's link... Will email marina just in case, batters- good idea. Apparently Paddington is open till 10 on Mondays and fridays is good as it's not too far but that's about it and I need more time. Panic, panic, panic. Hate, hate, hate doing disserations. Takes so long to write anything even appraching coherency... Oh God- I feel an unsatisfactory emergency play centre placement for my boys coming on at this rate.

Have a look at this for links to UK University libraries including their catalogues and their opening hours. Last time I heard Hertfordshire have 24/7 opening. If you do want to use a University library you'll need a UK Libraries Plus card, now known as a Sconul Research Extra card, which your own institution's library can sort out for you. This will give you access and also possibly borrowing rights. You can search the website by geographical area so hopefully you'll find something local.

Thank you, eeek. The link doesn't seem to be working, though.
