mine blankly refuses. Ive tried and ive tried but he continues to pull it off. Hes got alot hair and is well due a haircut but as it protects his head ive left it as it is so it protects his head. It just annoyed me the other day when this women made a comment about him not wearing one. Ive make sure he drinks loads, wears sun cream and weve not even been out til late afternoon when its cooler.

Batman doesn't really need a sun hat though.

ninah · 19/07/2006 11:47

Well he might on his hols ...
OK, point taken! I'm off to Gotham City

Kelly1978 · 19/07/2006 11:48

no Mine are 15 mnths and nothing works. I'm tempted by superglue! They jsut chuck them into the paddlign pools or whatever, they absoluitely loath hats. dd and ds1 weat them, but they won't copy them.

curtaintwitcher · 19/07/2006 11:49

DS will willing wear a hat and he is 2.9yrs..however it is 7mth dd I have problems with as she yanks them off and throws them.

schneebly · 19/07/2006 11:50

yes but until recently DS2 needed some major distraction while you put it on!

LucyJones · 19/07/2006 11:50

ds is usually good at wearing his hat but on the occasions that he has taken it off and refused to put it on again I have had success in getting him to wear his dad's sunhat!! It falls down over his eyes but he enjoys dressing up so thinks it's hilarious. Have you tried wearing a hat yourself as they often like to copy at this age?

NomDePlume · 19/07/2006 11:50

Yes. I've always insisted that DD wears one unless she is in full shade because she is a very pale skinned, blue eyed fine-haired red-head, the worst combo for burning. She wears it in the paddling pool at home or the pool/sea on holiday, too.

BettySpaghetti · 19/07/2006 11:52

I have the opposite problem with DS (2.1) he won't take his off - he has sweat pouring down him sometimes but insists on wearing his hat indoors, in the car etc. and has masses of hair so it gets all wet and tangled.

He loves dressing up type hats etc too though.

ninah · 19/07/2006 11:54

great name, Betty!

NomDePlume · 19/07/2006 11:58

Her old one was wayyyyyyyyyyy better, ninah. I'm still mourning the loss of that one, Betty

BettySpaghetti · 19/07/2006 11:59

-I prefer this one !

ninah · 19/07/2006 11:59

oh no
I shall be racking what's left of my brains, now
Is the yyyy a clue
I've been off here too long

ninah · 19/07/2006 12:00

WHO are you???!!!

SoupDragon · 19/07/2006 12:00

I think DSs usually wore them and BabyDragon (5 monts) seems happy enough to wear one at the moment.

BettySpaghetti · 19/07/2006 12:01

I wasn't anyone you'd probably recognise TBH -just had a name that conjured odd images in peoples minds

ninah · 19/07/2006 12:03

oh OK! well, like this one

NomDePlume · 19/07/2006 12:03

It made me pmsl whenever I read it.

BettySpaghetti · 19/07/2006 12:05

I'll put you out of your misery -it was Hornbag (if you ever watched Kath and Kim you'll understand).

ninah · 19/07/2006 12:06

!

fennel · 19/07/2006 12:21

last summer the only hat dd3, age 15 months, would wear was her bike helmet. she did look a bit weird on the beach but it did the job.

this year she will wear a normal sunhat, though she's not wild about them.

yummimummy · 19/07/2006 23:51

DD wears a hat daily. She does take it on and off all the time, but does have a bit of a hat fetish (and a sock fetish too) insisting on wearing 1 or sometimes 2 hats indoors.
She's been wearing a hat daily since she was born so is quite used to it now (we live in Oz where everyone wears hats all the time)

eidsvold · 20/07/2006 04:34

all the time - but here in AUs it is manadtory when they are in kindy/day care or school - no hat no play.

I found with dd1 who really was not a hat lover - get a larger hat that still shaded her face but it did not feel like it was on iyswim - that worked as well as jsut perservering - hat on, hat on etc when they chuck it.

Even the toddler got over her aversion to hats - again a looser fitting one with a chin strap seems to do the job.

They ask to put them on. Guess the fact that they wear them all year round means it has become second nature to them
