at least I hope it's the middle

Support thread

DS is 21 weeks and gone from a good night sleeper to a wake a million times to play, chat, scream and blow raspberries sleeper.

Doesn't help that he is a terrible day time napper so is exhausted and annoyed most of the day from being up playing all night.

Anyone else currently going through this? How are you coping.

Yep. Although he slept well last night for the first time in four/five weeks. I'm praying for another good night! I just caved and brought him into bed with me as he seemed to settle back to sleep quite quickly then...bit paranoid about the long term effects on his sleep but needed the rest! also found napping with him during the day helps! sleep regressions suck!

Clarabell78 · 18/11/2013 22:46

Yep! 20 wk ds slept through the night from 11wks 6.30pm - 6am but is now up at least 3 times and have had to feed him at least 1 of those. I'm just sticking with the hope that it will pass and trying not to be too miserable about it as I've heard it can last quite a while! He tends to sleep soundly until about 12-1am so I've been trying to get to bed around 8pm to bank some sleep. Good to know we aren't the only ones :-)

Yeh I have been brining him in to bed when it gets too much ... Unfortunately he doesn't really nap in the day (no longer than 40 minutes a time and mainly when he's out in the pram) so I can't really catch up in the day.

Are yours waking you up crying/wanting food? I am finding he isn't really crying for us as such ... He is just playing / screaming (excitedly) really loudly.

Mine's a bad napper too - 45 mins max! I tried feeding him but he wasn't interested. He's after his dummy all the time! Apparently my good night was a fluke and he was back in with me by 3 again last night Sad its been going on for nearly 5 weeks now! ! Although it did start with a cold. .

lockie1983 · 19/11/2013 20:08

Aw bless him - is he suffering wih teeth too?

Nope I don't think mine wants food really. Think he just wants a cuddle !

He's teething a bit but not sure if it's bad enough to be causing problems in the night. I read somewhere that they wake and just want comfort from their mum - kind of makes me feel a bit better about the whole thing! How long do these regressions last? Am already scared for the next one! !

lockie1983 · 20/11/2013 08:51

Yes I read that too. This is the end of the "fourth trimester" and they are learning that they are actually separate beings to us ! My HV also said that separation anxiety can start early too, so if coupled with a regression can make it extra tough.

I think the length of time is variable ... I think a few weeks, but not helped by the cold first I bet. Ours started with teeth - they were driving him mad, but that has settled now (no teeth to speak of) and was probably two weeks, a break and now coming to the end of another fortnight. He had a good night last night though ...

I'm sure DS is bored of me by the end of the day and can't wait for his Dad to get home so not sure he's anxious when separated from me!

It's been hard to tell what's been regression and what's cold! porridge at tea time seems to be working well though - he's sleeping much better when we give it to him!

lockie1983 · 20/11/2013 21:20

Ah interesting. We had been wondering about porridge.

Yep, he is a tired little grump in the afternoon cos he saves all his smiles for when daddy gets home !

Ok I may have spoken too soon with the porridge! This is ridiculous now it's been going on for 5 weeks! will I ever get my good little sleeper back? ! Sad

lockie1983 · 23/11/2013 10:27

Poor thing!

Our little ones new game is waking for the day at 4.30. Wouldn't mind if he actually napped in the day ... Sigh.

I think another week and you might see the end of it (hopeful)
