I have inhaled all the threads I can find about sleeping and waking patterns in babies to 6 months old and they all seem to say that by now DD2 should be awake after daytime naps for 1.5 to 2hrs and then nap again. DD2 has been such hard work. She cried loads from 1 week old and after sorting reflux and finding ways to get her to sleep during the day she is better but wakes from naps crying and then is rubbing her eyes less than an hour afterwards and is a total wasp if she doesn't get more sleep. She has to be in bed by 6.45 or is very cranky, she gets a dream feed at 11pm and then sleeps to 4-5am and then wakes and sleeps till 6.30 . In total during the day she gets 5-6 naps but I can't reduce this as she is so unhappy. I discussed with my GP and got her weighed and measured and was patted on the head and told not to worry she was fine. She is growing so fast and is already 2.5 feet long so is it possible she is so tired from all this physical effort to grow or is it maybe a phase or maybe a personality thing. Oh I don't really know Confused so anyone with anything enlightening to say would be appreciated.

What harm if she sleeps lots? I have a 2 year old and a 4 month old - both sleep loads. My four mth old currently does about 9 hrs at night and then has about 3 long sleeps in day. They are growing and sleep helps with that. Every baby is different.

I imagine it is just a phase. Enjoy those naps while they last!

But if she is still the same in a couple of months then yes, press for someone to look into it.

As you can probably tell just by looking at your own 2 dc, all babies are different and one child's routine and nap pattern is not necessarily going to be the same as another child's. As long as she's growing well, feeding well and having wet and dirty nappies she should be fine. I'd just let her sleep as much as she needs. If she'll sleep in the pushchair or car seat then it shouldn't really impact on your day much; you'll still be able to leave the house and run errands or take your elder dc out.

No advice really but if it makes you feel better my 8 month old dd sleps from 5pm to 7am and I cant stop her as she is tired and will not go any later :)

Thanks for your replies, sorry maybe I wasnt clear in my post but she is so unhappy as well as being so tired. I don't mind how much she sleeps but its the fact that she wakes up crying from all sleeps and will be content for a very short time and then cry again until I get her to sleep. There are flashes of a cheerful baby and then we are back to crying again. I suppose some of it is a personality thing because sometimes as soon as I pick her up she stops. You are right its probably a phase also, forgive my self-indulgence but I'd like to be enjoying a cheerful baby for more than 5 minutes as this is my last Blush.

Don't worry. My dd was the same, and at 16 she goes to sleep sometimes at 7pm!! She is always ready for a kip.

I don't know where she gets it from! Yawwwn
