Potty training - wees perfect but poos...

Hi

I started training my 2.8yo two weeks ago. He clicked with wees instantly, we haven't had an accident even during naps since day 2. But he still poos in his pants every day

What can I do? Is this common? Any tricks?

Thanks

We did a 'super special surprise' with DS. Usually a you from the pound shop. Really bigged up getting the surprise and it sorted it. He would hold out his hands and close his eyes. Very cute and it worked!

Thanks. So did you say 'if you let me know when a poo is coming you get a present'? I am happy to do that. It is very frustrating because he knows je is going to do one, he hides! So it doesn't take him by surprise.

No tricks but very common. After having had major problems with DD2, I could write a thesis on the subject: the docs all said that wee and poo are different developmental stages so normal, relax, encourage lightly (no pressure), ensure child has plenty of fluids/ballast and hope for the best.

With DD1, who had no mental block about bowel movements, I used to give a few prunes to help a bit.

We stumbled at this road block twice and I'm afraid he's back in pull-ups. The final straw was when my washing machine broke and I was without one for eight days! I decided to take a month's break and try again.

Have you tried getting him into a 'poo routine'? Most people naturally feel the urge to have a bowel movement about 20 minutes after eating. If you encourage him to use the loo then, you may well find hedoes a poo. We did this with DD1 and it worked very well. I would give her a book or my phone to play with while she sat there. She's 4 now but she still poos after breakfast and dinner!

He only does one a day, usually at 5pm but did one at lunch today just to keep me on my toes. I just don't understand - he hides so he knows it's coming. Why won't je tell me like he does with wees? He gets buttons for wees and bribery works very well with him Confused

I don't really want to go back to pull ups. I wonder if offering to put a nappy on st 4pm would help him.

Google poo goes to pooland. If he knows when he's pooing this should help.

getoffthecoffeetable · 13/10/2013 16:46

Yes, we did. If he'd done it in his pants we just told him he'd missed out on his surprise and to try next time.
I took his pants off him for a bit so I could catch him pooing and if he started would whip him on the potty and if he did the rest if the poo in it, he got the surprise.
It does help having laminate floors rather than carpet!
