Does anyone now how to do this? You know the line of dots between the subject and page number.

press the tab key

You need to set a tab for where the page number will go with a leader of dots. Type the subject, hit tab and type the page number.

Hi, you need to enter the position (or number/point on the ruler) where you want the tab to be.

Also, if you want the dots to run from where you stop typing to that point then you will also need to make the tab right-aligned (i.e. runs from the point on the ruler you specify in tab stop position backwards from the right).

If you still have problems then maybe I can upload a snapshot of how the tabs should be set-if that would help?

I think I set tabs as follows
1 right aligned tab with leaders where you want the dots to go to then one a short distance after to leave a gap before the numbers and then a right aligned one where I want the right hand edge of the numbers to go.

Then, type subject, press tab (get dots) press tab again (get gap), press tab again and type the page number.

It;s not 100% necessary to get the right tab stop poi=sition because you can drag them about on the ruler when you've set them.

HURRAY, did it . Cor blimey,it's not very straightforward is it. I've never liked tabs.

THANK YOU all for you kind and patient assistance, now all I've got to do is finish this horrible, horrible assignment.
