Why are cruel parenting sites legal?

I have heard of Gary Ezzo before, and today discovered the horrific Michael Pearl. Pearl and his wife actually advocate beating children under the age of one with 'switches' from a tree, and describe horrendous incidences where they have beaten other peopel's children. He instructs parents to beat children relentlessly.

Since incitement to other kinds of violence is banned, and the beahviour this man admits to is presumably legally child abuse, why is it permissable that he openly encourages people to beat children. To beat babies? (he proudly describes beating an 11 month old on his bare leg with a stick).

I really, really want him arrested.

Who publishes this filth?

I cannot believe Amazon sell it.

You can't buy child porn on Amazon, presumably?

Blu · 15/05/2006 15:43

anniemac - yes, I feel very 'in two minds' - and sorry if the cut and paste was too much. Really, I want to know, how can it be legal to publish this kind of 'incitement'. It ISN@T 'just' a sick website, it is available in books on the mainstream commercial market.

I am going to write to Amazon.

Is there an email address for Amazon to complain?

madmarchhare · 15/05/2006 15:45

I will email Amazon too.

harpsichordcarrier · 15/05/2006 15:46

iirc the Pearls were investigated by the authorities in the US and no further action taken against them. There was no complaint from their children etc so not in the public interest. He has the backing of many churches and claims he is preachign God's truth. There was - iirc - a campaign against him and his methods by a group of women, but their voicse were drowned out as being Shock in league with Satan and all that.
he is the vilest of the vile but he has many on his side. In the US there is no political capital in opposing someone who claims to speak for GOD, however dubious.

I have just read from another site that a woman using his 'methods' is being tried for murder and child abuse for hitting her adopted kids and suffocating one of them.
The bit that gets me is that 'they' say 'She never met Pearl' 'We can't find any evidence that she bought our teachings'
HMMMMMMMM.....sounds like denial to me...
Still want to batter him with a baseball bat, going to his level I know but it would make me feel so much better.

Wisp · 15/05/2006 15:50

Bloody Hell !! Shock
That is repulsive..I honestly feel sick at the thought of doing that to a child !!!
I'm emailing amazon too..

hunkermunker · 15/05/2006 15:51

Ah, just seen who publishes it...

Publisher: The Church at Cane Creek

Not much point trying to email them, I don't think.

Wisp · 15/05/2006 15:52

Just to add...Ive emailed them saying I will boycot using them until they stop selling it ( I spend about £20 a month on average with them)
I might add a review on the book too........Angry

LeahE · 15/05/2006 15:52
Shock
CarolinaMoonfish · 15/05/2006 16:02

It's incredible that something like that is being sold through Amazon. I thought Ezzo's books at least were watered down for the mainstream, and the beatings only advocated in literature sold through their church.

I really, really hope no-one's putting these methods into practice over here Sad.

Caligula · 15/05/2006 16:10

Think of all those poor American bible belt children being abused though.

Ought we to send missionaries over?

It's flabbergasting.

foxinsocks · 15/05/2006 16:13

I can't believe that is being sold on amazon

coppertop · 15/05/2006 16:15

Shock at Amazon selling this kind of book.

Blu · 15/05/2006 16:16

Yep, fox - hundreds of new and second hand copies on the U.S Amazon site.

foxinsocks · 15/05/2006 16:18

I was just checking the publisher (thinking who in their right mind would publish it) but I see they did it themselves.

I will email amazon. I think it's absolutely dreadful.

Mercy · 15/05/2006 16:18

Words fail me. what vile despicable creatures.

Caligula · 15/05/2006 16:20

What a despicable man. Hitting children to make himself feel powerful. He needs locking up, and so does anyone who follows his need. It's child abuse, pure and simple. He obviously doesn't believe in god either as he'd have to know he was going to hell for terrorizing children - it's just a sick excuse and he is a sorry excuse for a man.
