Potty training children who attend day nursery

I am looking for advice from people who have children in day nursery who are going through potty training or they are already potty trained. My ds is 2.5 and doesn't show much interest in potty training yet. I have decided to leave any attempts for a while in the hope that it will be easier the older he gets. He's in nursery 4 days a week so ideally I don't want it to take too long for him to get the hang of potty training. The nursery will work with me when it comes to training but I suspect the risks of accidents are higher at nursery as he will be distracted. I think i'll give potty training a go when he's 2.75 as we'll have had our holiday so there will be no disruptions to his routine.

I am interested to know whether you've decided to take time off work to start off potty training and whether that has been successful.

I did potty training over a long weekend, when DD wasn't at nursery. We were lucky as she was dry very quickly. The next session I told them and they just continued with the praise and reminders. I even took DD's own potty in for a while too which helped. The stickers went straight on the potty so this kept the continuity of the reward and she prefered her potty chair to a normal little potty. Nursery were really good.

DS is 28 months and goes to nursery twice a week (Monday and Wednesday).

We started potty training a couple of months ago on a Thursday so that I could have a good feel for whether he'd be likely to be OK on the Monday. He went in with lots of spare pants and trousers and there were a few accidents, but it was all OK. Nursery was very supportive.

In my case it helps that I am on maternity leave with 6 month old DD and so have been able to take time over it. I will be back at work in July and I think this inspired me to see if it could be done before I went back to work.

I think that either doing it over a long weekend, or taking some time off would be a good idea.
