when filling out applications etc what do you say your occupation is? Slave? Housewife? I never know what to put down.

I agree with MI if it's a job application because it doesn't matter what the definition of 'occupation' is - they want to know what you do with your time.

If it's a passport application or something and there are just tick boxes, I'd just tick the most relevant box and not worry about it since it doesn't influence whether you get the passport or not.

I might even put my former occupation on something like a passport application - after all I might be doing it again in the next 10 yrs Smile

I'm taking a total of 5 years out to be a SAHM. If anybody asks, I'm a scientist on extended maternity leave.

OMG - I came back to this after cooking spag primavera for my 18 mnth DD and found 56 msgs!! Maybe I shall state I am a cook!

I love it when that happens, ok for those who want to know, it's form for renting a property in the US, we own our house here but are moving to the States for a secondment with my DH work. I think it would be best for me to state that I am a housewife for credit purposes?

I would definitely always say full-time parent. When ds2 was born we had to fight to put that down as my occupation on his birth certificate as it wasn't an option (-though I think housewife was).

Incidentally, where are you moving to? We are off to NY on secondment in July for a couple of years!

supakids · 10/05/2006 11:55

full time mum

booge · 10/05/2006 11:56

Ummm not SAHM but got royally pissed off when woman in bank asked if she should put my occupation down as mother, she would never have as DH if his occupation was Father...mehhhhhh

supakids · 10/05/2006 12:04

True, true

charliegreensmum · 10/05/2006 16:06

DH is SAHD, and insists on being called 'The House Manager'.

Greensleeves · 10/05/2006 16:07

Muggins

Wouldn't mind if he did manage the house - but as well as working full time, I do the food shopping, plan menus, washing up, sort DS's food, manage all the bills and budgets and organise all holidays and social life - hmmm, maybe he is managing me better than I give him credit for.... He is brill with DS though so can't complain too much!
