Worst Parenting trends of 2012

Hello

Justine has been asked what she thinks is the worst parenting idea/fad/trend of 2012. We're not really looking for the worst parenting products- you can stick that in Mumsnet reviews, but rather trends- for example we're not too keen on this belly painting thing although you may be! Grin

Anyway we're keen to hear your thoughts what do you think is the daftest parenting fad this year?

Thank you!

Definitely the term mummy porn and babymoons. And along with the 50 Shades bibs etc, ANY dumb slogans on kids clothes.
What is a cake smash?

Awh I like the cake smash :)

50 shades stuff is highly inappropriate.

The worst parenting idea for 2012 is the means testing of child benefit. Daft is good in my book. Money grabbing Tory bastards, not so much.

Definitely unquestionably without exception, baby showers. I'm sorry but it's grasping, I don't want to play stupid games, it's unlucky to give gifts before the birth, and it's you know, just not cricket!

I like the cake smash.
Dislike Baby Showers a lot.
Worst thing is the Child Benefit changes.

Sorry "Team Yellow" - don't know the gender of the baby - as in "looking for some white babygros as we're team yellow" I'm not sure why it irritates me so much I think it may be the now constant use of Team ...... to describe anything.

Pretentious I think .

I wasted an hour of my life watching some real housewives of NY crap and they were talking about how one of em had a premature baby who weighed only 4lb then in the very next sentence congratulated her on her superfast weightloss and asked which diet she used whilst pregnant??!!!!!? Shock

It is just WRONG I tell ya!

tattychicken · 09/11/2012 20:41

That's awful. About the wee baby I mean.

How American everything has become. Names. Babyshowers. Diapers. All that pink/blue cake shit.

TheOneWithTheHair · 09/11/2012 20:46

Definitely baby showers. And baby swinging/turning. Disgusting concept.

I know, I must have seen a re-run cos was just looking online and found this

www.thatsfit.com/2010/06/04/bethenny-frankel-on-losing-the-baby-weight-in-three-weeks/

so I am behind the times but still I don't understand why celebrity headlines are about losing weight not the simple fact that fat makes brains during pregnancy so if you are starving yourself and your baby whaddya get?

Poor starved bubs.

Off to find the chocolate eclairs...

OMFG! I just looked up baby swinging!

Am going to bed to have nightmares, no eclair for me, feel too sick now :(

Eww "team yellow" is rank.
Baby showers are just stupid - just wait and get together with your friends after you've had the baby and you can DRINK!!
Also - if you've got a motivated couple you can end up with an engagement gift, wedding gift, AND baby shower gift... Not to mention actual baby gift... WithIn 18 months. I don't like anyone that much Grin

What is baby swinging?
Don't fancy looking at a sick feeling inducing video.

Pictures of baby and daddy both wearing a moustache. Harmless but daft.

on the team yellow rant a friend told me she's having a beige baby... I was a bit confused as I thought 'how on earth does she know that, is there a special scan for that.' thank god I didn't ask her that, she understood the confused face. I hope that's not a trend.

I hate the 'team' whothefuckcares trend.

No justfabulous I think that was a cross-post.
Baby swinging seems to involve swinging tiny babies around by their legs in the name of "dynamic gymnastics". I didn't watch the video. My DDs love being turned upside down but that does seem a bit extreme.

I would nominate the Pinterest Parenting Phenomenon... suddenly we seem to live in Utah Hmm
