Just measured dd (8.5mo) height and while we knew she was long, she is 99th centile according to her age.

She is a great chatter but still.not.crawling or bum shuffling....could this be why?

Anyone else with a long 'un? Wink

I don't agree with 'talker or walker' either, but for the opposite reasons for you - my late walking ds is delayed in both. when he was really struggling with the walking loads of people said "oh he must be concentrating on his talking!" erm.. nope! he can walk now but he still cant really talk.
they are all different

I think it's usually said to reassure someone in the OP's position rather than as a dig. Personally I think there's some truth in it, but of course that doesn't mean it applies to every baby! They are all different. Boofle and firawla, I'm sure both your DSs are lovely Smile

My HV said something v wise to me when I was worrying that DD wasn't walking at 15m "they can't do everything at once".

It may be that your child is developing a bit ahead in one area e.g. speech or fine motor skills or whatever - and whatever area is causing concern will catch up in all likelihood.

DD is now 2.7 and the HV was right! Grin

Yup! Went off the charts for height and weight at 6 months. Stood up and cruised a bit but no walking till 18 months. No crawling either. Just a shuffle of some sorts Grin
I bet it has to do with his height...hv did not comment. At 26 months he is tall enough to pass of for a 3 yo.

Not much talking either Smile not a walker, not a talker. Just a content watcher of life going by.

Ds was off the chart for weight and height from 3wks and still is at 19mths. He was ebf and just always seemed to be in a growth spurt! He crawled at 9mths and walked 3 days before his first birthday

AngelDog · 01/09/2012 09:48

Don't most babies crawl at about 9 months?

DS is 98th/99th centile for height and 99.8th for weight. He's 2.8 y.o. now.
He crawled at 8 or 9 months, walked at 14 months. He did both very quickly though e.g. a friend's daughter spent 6 months walking holding onto an adult before taking any independent steps. DS spent less than 6 days at that stage IIRC.

I know this post is very old- but I am interested whether those who posted about their long babies ended up with very tall children? My dd is 99th centile for height and I am a bit worried she is going to be huge!
