Natrual and unnatural mothers??????????????????????????

I Love my two children to bits and oh I try so hard to be the best mother, problem is it just doesn't come naturally to me, I find it impossible to surive without sleep, I can't speak baby language, when we're stuck indoors I find every second a challenge. I feel I have totally let myself go and I was wondering do you reckon there are just natural mothers who take to motherhood instinctively and those like myself who often feel like a fish out of water and despite loving their children to bits sturggle on a hourly basically? How old are your children? I think all of us would admit to finding some ages much easier than others. FWIW I really struggled with each of mine until they were 6 months old - found relating to them much easier after that, but my sister loves tiny babies and could sit and cuddle them all day.

Mine are 13 months and 5 weeks. My 5 week old is fine he just likes to eat and sleep mostly but my 13 month old and just started walking and into everything she's very beautiful and knows just how to wrap me round her little finger, how can one so young be so cunning!!! Smile

I'm definately the unnatural kind sadlySad but my sister who has always been a bit of a stresshead has turned out to be a fantastic natural mum - its been the making of her. I am so proud of her but I can't help being a bit jealous as I wish I could enjoy it more.

Completely agree with CD - no wonder you're feeling a little under pressure! Be kind to yourself - things will get easier Smile.

i will happily admit that i am not a very maternal, i love my girls dearly but the whole mothering bit does not come naturally to me, lucky i married a very paternal man and he more than makes up for me! He is so much better with the girls than i am. My mother agrees!

I have more or less the same age gap with my ds and dd, emmawill. I am very weary today as dd not sleeping well. I think we are all affected by motherhood and no-one can claim that lack of sleep comes naturally ! My children are a joy though and I just keep reminding myself that it gets easier, as sooooo many people keep telling me. Remember there are loads of us out there - you are not the only one ! Good luck and keep enjoying your beautiful children.

You sound pretty normal to me - i dont believe anyone who says they can cope "normally" on the amoutn of sleep a new mum gets. Smile

VeniVidiVickiQV · 07/03/2006 16:21

When i say new mum, i mean parent with a newborn of course.

expatinscotland · 07/03/2006 16:23

i'm unnatural. but, i excel at cooking and baking and enjoy them both so both kids have had the benefit of food made with love :).

Piffle · 07/03/2006 16:24

Does that make me a natural one?
I love every second even the midnight and 2 am ones.....

emmawill · 07/03/2006 16:34

Oh my god piffe the only thing I used to enjoy at midnight and 2am was volka, that's if I can remember that far back Wink luckily my dh doesn't need so much sleep (or so I keep telling him!Grin) He is far more paternal than I am maternal. Oh yes I know what you mean podkin doesn't everybody tell us how it gets better, I believe them but I just hope it gets better before their 18!!!
