And do you get up with them right away or do you leave them for a little while? i tend to leave mine, but within a VERY short space of time they are causing hell and wrecking they're room!

How old?

DS (5) tends to get up between 7 and 7.30 - he is not allowed up before 7. During the week we are usually up by then or on the verge of getting up. At weekends he either comes in our bed or plays.

DD (1) we try to keep in bed until 7 (sometimes she goes later as well). She will come into our bed but at weekends if DS is up and playing she might toddle off to play with him. No bedroom wrecking, although occasional disagreements usually because DD sabotages whatever DS is playing with.

Helenemjay · 21/02/2006 12:40

Well the little monkeys share a room ds1 who is 5.6 and ds2 who is just 3, they were up at 6.15 this morning jumping up and down chucking ALL their toys all over and make such a noise dd who is 5 months was woken up by this and all hell broke loose! - this is a regular occurance and i have tried EVERYTHING to stop them, they have their own TV but that just makes a great target for them to lob stuff at! i give up!

5.30-6am

I have a no getting out of bed before 6am rule, but it requires rigourous enforcement

DS is 2 and will come into us at anytime from 5am onwards. Sometimes he will go back and play in his room but most times he just bounces on our bed till we wake up or will go and wake up his 2mth old sister!!

Nemo1977 · 21/02/2006 12:46

ooo aimsmum please tell me that as a baby she was a horrendous sleeper...very jealous of your sleep in.

Bozza · 21/02/2006 12:47

Wouldn't be happy with that. Also wouldn't be happy if my DS was up at 6.15 - he'd be awfully grumpy all afternoon. He has always had a light on a timer and is not allowed up until it comes on. It used to be 6.45 but is now 7. Sometimes he sleeps past it and usually at weekends we turn it off but if he wakes up he checks it.

If you are happy with them getting up at that time I would allow them certain morning toys they are allowed to play with (quite ones) and if they play with other things I would confiscate them. I am harsh though.

Passionflower · 21/02/2006 12:50

During week I wake them at 7am. Weekend and school hols they wake anytime between 7.30-8.30 and entertain themselves till we get up

They are 5, 4 & 2.

BettySpaghetti · 21/02/2006 12:50

DD (6) tends to get up between 7-7.30, even at weekends. We've told her shes not to get up before 7 (if she wakes before then she plays/reads in her room). When she gets up shes finally realised she doesn't have to disturb us and will go and put TV on/play.

DS(1) tends to wake later (7.30-8.30) -we have to wake him up some days to make sure hes had breakfast before taking DD to school.

(NB - on the rare occasion DD has a lie-in DS will wake unusually early -typical!)

Bugsy2 · 21/02/2006 12:55

Have you thought about taking everything out of their room apart from their beds & wardrobes HJ?
My two share a room (6 & 3). They wake up randomly any time from 5.45 to 7am and then they go straight downstairs. I get up sort them out some milk & a snack, put the TV on & then go back to bed until 7am.
At weekends I stay in bed as long as possible. Eventually, they get bored of watching the tv, torturing each other or the guinea pigs & come up to torture me, but I've usually managed to get a bit more sleep by then.

DD (3)

Nursery days - anywhere between 7 and 8, depending on when DH has to leave.
Other days - 8-9, when she wakes up.

crazydazy · 21/02/2006 13:19

At weekends DS (3) - usually has 12 hours so usually awakes around half 7.

DD (6) - usually wakes up same time cos he wakes her up.

When its school I have to drag them up at 8.00.

Rhubarb · 21/02/2006 13:23

7.45am. I go in, they put on woolly jumpers, have a wash, brush teeth and come downstairs. Have breakfast, get dressed and then they can watch a bit of telly, only if dd is fully dressed though, and ds is sat on his potty.

Ds sometimes wakes up earlier, around 7am, but whether he is crying or not I don't get him up until my alarm goes off!

Weekends they tend to wake around 8.30-9am and they chat to each other before one of us gets them up.

We have them well trained!

Rhubarb · 21/02/2006 13:24

Oh and dd is 5.5 and ds is 26 months, they share a room too.

oliveoil · 21/02/2006 13:29

When I work I wake them at 7am, dd2 usually is awake and lying there staring at the ceiling.

On my days off, I wake dd1 at 8am to get to playgroup.

Weekends dd1 can sometimes still be in bed at 9.30am!

Dd1 is 3, dd2 is 18 months.

kitegirl · 21/02/2006 13:38

9.30am... I DREAM of being able to sleep 'til 8!!
ds (2) wakes up at 6. Makes no difference when he goes to bed or whether he has a long nap, short nap or no nap. Oh and he yells the minute he opens his eyes until one of us goes to pick him up.

Rhubarb · 21/02/2006 13:41

kitegirl, my ds would do this too if we let him get away with it. Last night he woke at 3am, he started yelling and crying straight away. We left him for 10mins then dh went in, lay him back down, shushed him and came out. We left him for a further 15mins crying and yelling, then I went in and did the same, 15mins later he gave up.

He woke up at 7am this morning and started crying and yelling again. But I didn't go in until my alarm clock went off, by which time he'd calmed down a bit. Tomorrow he'll be fine. He tries it on every now and then but we just do exactly the same, we take no notice!

nikkie · 21/02/2006 22:22

dd2(4) 7.30 school days, teaching her not before eight (Belle on her clock!)
both go to bed 6.30-7pm

RachD · 21/02/2006 22:31

Earliest 5.30 am - not cool, but then dh gets up then too, so what can you do ?

Hulababy · 21/02/2006 22:38

DD (3y10m) wakes naturayy between 7 and 7:30am. But we have to wake her up at 6:45-7am 3 days a week, when i am working. She comes into our room on waking.

mumfor1standfinaltime · 21/02/2006 22:42

Ds is 13.5m, he will wake anytime between 5.30am and 7am! Depends how he feels! As its my day off work tomorrow he will def wake up at 5.30, infact I guarantee it!

(When I work mornings you can also guarantee that he will wake at 7am..dh to me - "oh he didnt wake up until gone 7.00..ggrr!)
