Girl, Boy, Girl....... How do they get on??!

We've just had it confirmed that our number 3 is going to be a girl. WE already have DD,4, and DS, 19 months.

Lots of people have said to us that it would have been better for DS if we had been having another DS because DD is very outgoing and strongwilled whereas DS is quiet and it's been mentioned that now he will be 'ganged up on' !!

So! I'm looking for anyone with the same combination/age gaps where they all live together in harmony!!!

Whether siblings get on has more to do with personality and parental input (IMHO) than gender.

By the time your dd2 becomes a "girl" rather than a "baby", your other two will be so used to her that they won't see her gender as a big thing, they will react more to the kind of person she is.

And a final point - if you were having a ds, then in theory your dd would lose out wouldn't she? So you can't win either way!!!

what diff does sex make? Ignore them. I have gbbb, and they all get on fine. I don't think there is any difference between how dd and ds1 relate to the babies, as they are pretty stereotyped in their genders.

Thank you I personally think they will all get along in the way any 3 would!! DD is absolutely over the moon that it's a girl but her and ds are already so close I can't see it changing them. I was also told that I have to make sure that dp has lots of 'boys time' with ds now as it's 3 against 2!!

I've got two girls and a boy zephyr - (mine are g,g,b though) - the girls are about as different from each other as it is possible to be! Honestly, particularly at a young age, gender has very little impact IMO.

We have GBG as Miaou says, but bigger age gaps (4 years each time). Similar personalities to yours, though, but the sound of it dd1 is quite a dominant character, ds more easy-going. And dd2 is definitely a force to be reckoned with small but mighty!

Personally I think it's easier to have alternating genders, as they are less likely to see themselves as being in direct competition. Also, you avoid 'middle child syndrome' as ds is clearly special, being the only boy. Mine all get on pretty well, bar minor squabbles. It's more to do with individual children's characters and how you as parents try to steer their interaction than any silly generalisations about gender/birth order ime.
