When does co-sleeping become inappropriate.

Ds1 has always been difficult to get to sleep.

He will be 6 in a few weeks. Bedtime is lately much improved but he often gets out of his bed and falls asleep in ours. We put him back when we go to bed.

He then, almost always, comes back into our bed in the middle of the night, around 4am. I'm usually asleep and don't wake up.

In theory, I don't really have a problem with this but have a nagging feeling that, at 6, he probably should be staying in his own bed.

Opinions and advice please.

yep we are fairly relaxed about nudity in our house and the kids see us naked and vice versa, they all co-slept till about 3yrs ish, dd is 15mths and in bed with us, we sleep naked, well she doesnt, but dp and i do. sometimes ds3 or ds4 will come in the morning for a snuggle and ds2 as well.

nakedness is just skin and its not an issue in our house particularly, ds1 is now starting to get changed in his own room, will shut the door when he showers, not when the goes to the toilet them Hmm but he has no issue iwth seeing me naked sometimes, will come into the bathroom whilst i am in the shower so he can chat etc, but he did see my give birth to dd, so has seen it all anyway!

DS gets in with us at about 3-4am most nights. He has co-slept from birth. He is 7. We wear underwear at night, but don't have an issue with nudity. We like our bodies, in our house Grin

For me co sleeping was always inappropriate. So I never did it, any toddler that wandered in was promptly returned to their own bed in their own room. I would not want a six year old boy in bed with me and my husband.

what oakmaiden said. Tonight it's dd1's turn - she's 9. Again, nudity not and issue in our house.

Ds is 5.5 he comes in to us every night at some point. DH sleeps naked, I am always cold and so wear pjs. It is not an issue for us. I love love love snuggling up to ds in the night, he won't want to do it forever. I also think it helps us feel a unit, what I mean is it's not him and us (dh and I), it's all of us together. No sex issues as I don't know about the rest of you but nowadays sex at 4am doesn't happen Grin.

I'm sure I remember reading somewhere that it's pretty standard in Japan to co-sleep up to 7...

DS still co-sleeps at 4. DH made a snarky comment yesterday about him having to stop it before he goes to school or other children will make fun of him - I think it's down to DS tbh. He is fine with everything else but doesn't like waking up alone. I did have him sleeping by himself in the cot from 5.5m to 20m but then we moved abroad and it all went to shit and he's never done a full night on his own since.

Sometimes he'll sleep with me, sometimes with DH - but neither of us are naked when we do, it just doesn't feel right to us. No issue with other people doing it their own way though - everyone should do what is right for their own family, and ignore any noseyparker busybodies. Wink

I co-sleep with dd2 and 3 (3 and 1) most nights. They are already in my room and dd2's bed is butted upto mine.

DD1(15) has never really wanted to sleep in our bed unless really poorly.

DS(13) used to a lot as a toddler but we did have to share a bed for 6 months. He does sometimes pop in for a cuddle

Me and Dp often sleep naked, I like nightclothes for when I get up so they are always nearby if I want them.

We don't have any trouble with sex as we don't associate it anymore with our bed, the 2 dd's have taken over our room.
