Dd was 3.5. She got a pop-up tent; we thought she might like a corner of her own if it all got too much. She was also taken to buy a present for the baby- but nothing like as expensive or exciting; he got a baby doll.

We got him a scooter. Had got it for him anyway and decided to keep it till the baby came and give it to him then.

I'm thinking of a hobby horse or a baby doll and stroller. DD will be 2 when new baby arrives.

Ds was 16mo, we got him a doll when dd came home but in hospital I had a tin lunch box, in it was some animals (sleich or elc) some buttons, a pad and pack of crayons. Made visiting lovely and easy, I had an elcs so knew I'd be in a while.

DD1 was 21mths.

We bought her a little foldable buggy and a baby doll. I struggled to find one that didnt cry, poo, wee etc as I figured that we would have enough of that for real! :)

She also bought Baby a little comforter teddy that she insisted that DD2 had at all times which was actually quite sweet.

DS was 3.9 when DD arrived. "She" got him a book and anytime he chooses it for his bedtime story, he always remembers the day she was born. I was sceptical before having DD about this idea of buying him something but am glad now I did.

Molehillmountain · 20/03/2012 18:25

Dd1 had a Rosie doll from elc, only little. Da had a roary the racing car. Neither are firm favourites but they were on offer, went down well at the time and dd2 is still the first person they want to see in the morning so it can't have been a disaster Wink

GhastlyBespoke · 20/03/2012 18:31

We got DS a Wii game but he was almost 7 then. He brought his baby sis her special teddy.

quickhide · 20/03/2012 18:40

DD1 was just 2 and we got her the Melissa and Doug takealong dolls house. They both play with it now (age 4 and 2) and DD1 still tells DD2 "you bought me this!"

Flisspaps · 20/03/2012 19:17

We've got DD a bike. Admittedly, it's a £10 Ben and Holly trike thing from B&M but she doesn't have a bike of her own. We were going to get it for her birthday last week and it was £20 then but we thought we'd hang on and get it from the baby instead - bonus that it had been reduced when we went back Grin

kilmuir · 20/03/2012 19:21

nothing

Guitargirl · 20/03/2012 19:23

DD was 2 and DS got her a book about dinosaurs which she was obsessed about at the time. I don't think she was too impressed to be honest! In retrospect he should have got her a shedload of stickers.

surroundedbyblondes · 20/03/2012 19:29

DD2 'bought' DD1 a little handbag filled with all kind of big girl treats. DD1 was 2 when DD2 was born. She loved it and it is still a firm favourite, but she doesn't remember it was from her sister. Still loves her to pieces though.

I also had a stack of things for DD1 to play with in my hospital bag. I knew I'd be in for several nights and DD1 would be visiting regularly.

SandyChick · 20/03/2012 20:09

I'm due with ds2 in 2 weeks. Ds1 has bought the baby a teddy. He wants ti wrap it himself and he's going to make him a card. The baby has bought ds1 the batcopter. Ds1 (4 yrs) says there's a toy shop in my tummy so the baby can bring him a present. Dh & I are going to get a gift for ds1 that's more of a keepsake but not sure what yet.

Flyonthewindscreen · 20/03/2012 21:50

DD "bought" DS a poohbah toy (big toddler tv hit at the time 8 years ago). DD was a home birth in the middle of the night and the next morning DS (then 2) came into our bedroom to see his new sister and was far more interested in the poohbah that was hiding underneath the crib!

heliumballoon · 20/03/2012 21:57

Big sister T-shirt. Next does them.

WhenDoISleep · 20/03/2012 22:04

DS2 (due next month) has got DS1 (3.2) a train - it is his (DS1's) namesake train from Thomas the Tank Engine and he keeps mentioning that he wants one - so we are hoping it will be a hit. Also, DH and I have got some extra bits held back from Christmas/his birthday to help keep him occupied (more bits for the trainset and some books) when I am busy with DS2.

I will be taking DS1 to the shops in the next few weeks and asking him to choose a little soft toy for DS2

ThisIsNotWhatIWasAfter · 20/03/2012 22:22

Nothing Ds 2 arrived on boxing day and there was no way i was having even more toys in the house. Everyone got carried away with sympathy 'not an only anymore' presents.
