2.7yo DD wants to know how her baby sister is going to get out - how much info??

On the way to nursery this morning DD (2.7) asked me how her sister is going to get out of my tummy. I had rather hoped this wouldn't cross her mind yet and managed to palm her off with 'We can talk about it later when we're back home' but need to think through a suitable response for when the question inevitably arises again. Don't want to fob her off/give such a vague description that she gets wrong end of stick, but equally am reluctant to get too technical about the birds and the bees at such a tender age. Does anyone have any top tips for me please??

Sorry if this has been done lots before but was hard to know what to search for!

"Mummies have a special hole near their bum, that's for pushing babies out of, like a poo."

Or if you have a CS you can legitimately say through your tummy! Xmas Grin

I said to DD1 when DD2 was expected, that "Boys have a hole for wee and a hole for poo, women have the same but another hole in between for the baby to come out of". V simple and answered her question.

(girls/women, you get my meaning!)

Thanks all, think I'll try peeriebear's tack. Unfortunately (for these purposes) my CS is now looking unlikely...

This is the only question that DD (3.11) has asked the whole way through this pregnancy. She's not at all interested in how it got in there, just how it's getting out. I told her that ladies have a special hole like a tunnel near where their wee wee comes out and usually it's very small but when the baby comes out it stretches bloody painfully so it's big enough to let the baby through and then it becomes bucketlike small again. She seemed happy enough with that.

I'd just tell the truth - women have a special opening, called a vagina, near where they wee, and it gets bigger when the baby is ready to be born, allowing the baby to squeeze through.

I wouldn't get hung up on 'tender age' etc - just answer the question factually and without making a big deal about it - just like you'd answer any other question.

OK, will stick to a v. simple overview of the facts. Would have found it easier to tell her a stork was bringing her!

I remember at about this age ds1 very loudly asking my friend with a tiny baby at a swimming pool 'and did you SQUE-EE-EZE him out of your vagina?' Grin
