Would it be ridiculous to have a double bed for a 3 year old?

Thinking ahead slightly here but would appreciate any experiences or thoughts.

DD is 2.3 and currently in a cot bed (sides still on) and very happy there.

I am due to have DC2 in February who will obviously be in our bed a moses basket for the first few months but will then move into DD's cot bed in his/her own room (current spare room).

The original plan was to buy a toddler bed or a single bed for DD to move into but as DC2 will be moving into the spare room we will have a double bed that we'll otherwise have to get rid of.

It seems a bit silly to get rid of one perfectly good bed and then buy another for DD.

Also thought it could be useful if we had guests as DD could share a room with her sibling on an airbed and guests could have the double.

Have had a couple of raised eyebrows when I've mentioned this plan in RL so thought I'd canvas opinion here.

A double is only 1.5 feet bigger than a single, so shoved against the wall rather than in the middle of the room as two adults would have it, the bed won't actually take up that much room. Seems very sensible to me (and as you can see there is no escape from vile character bedding).

we did exactly that for the same reasons and it's worked out really well Dd1 loves being in a double bed and it's great for reading bedtime stories as you can jump in too! My mum also wasn't convinced but she now thinks its worked out fine. You can buy children's double duvet sets although the range is much more limited than fr singles

Good to hear so many others have done this sucessfully and thanks for the tip about single duvets. I'll still try to avoid the dreaded character bedding though

Grin chippingin. Unfortunately her bed hogging tendencies are already ingrained. There will be No Boys for a very long time.
