..........play Grand Theft Auto (or some similar playstation game). 11 year old got it for b'day, 8 year old sister watches. Had to take my ds (4) out of the room and then have a chat to him about why I didn't want him watching it and why we are likely to have different rules as to the age he can play games like that in our house. Am I just naive?

Well as it's rated 18 and is a game where you can cruise streets for prostitutes I would tend to stick to no older than 15

compo · 07/12/2005 19:29

as in not until the age of 15

spykid · 07/12/2005 19:30

Dont they sleep with prostitutes and then shoot them?
Think its a sick game for anyone even adults.
Deffo not for kids

Shock
northender · 07/12/2005 19:35

I was so shocked because they're usually fairly similar to us in what they let their kids do so this just threw me. Another of our friends have a 15 yo son who has it but he's good at not playing it in front of younger ones and getting more appropriate games out. Have to say even at any age this game sickens me.

Isn't Grand Theft Auto one of the best selling games ever? Maybe that says something about society?

Grand Theft Auto is marvellous entertainment - apparently you can have sex with a prostitute in a car and then shoot her to get your money back. Lovely.

northender · 07/12/2005 20:08

What did you say to that lockets? omg a 2 year old. At least my friend was aware that it wasn't suitable for a 4yo!

Ds is six and there is a child in his year who is either a marvellous bluffer or who plays Grand Theft Auto on his dad's console. Either way, he knows plenty about the game details.
I think GTA is deplorable for all the reasons others have given but am sure there are loads of others just as bad but less publicised.
Still holding out against any games console here but think it won't be much longer...about half ds' class have them.

Can I show my age, stroke my chin and say "It wasn't like that in my day, what's wrong with Pacman?"

SecondhandRose · 07/12/2005 20:31

My 10 year old isn't even allowed 12+ games. It's gross, don't suppose they've even realised what the kids are doing.

MistletoeMiggins · 07/12/2005 20:33

my H showed our DS some shooting game the other weekend - it was deffo an 18
I had to say - "thats not suitable for DS to be watching"
DS is 3 1/2 and will soon be spending time in H new house away from me explaining how 18 games mean older than 3 1/2

northender · 07/12/2005 20:37

Our ds is limited to a namco console that I bought dh for christmas last year with all the old games on like pacman

I'm amazed this is allowed in shops. It's horrifying. In very poor taste and very violent.

Passionflowerinapeartree · 07/12/2005 20:47

DSS (10) was boasting to DH about how he had finished a game with a 15 rating and his mum (DH's x) had told him how clever he was because the game was for teenagers! Needless to say DH explained to his x that the 15 rating meant it wasn't suitable for children under that age. We don't let DSS play any violent or agressive games when he's with us.

I had no idea how shocking the content of GTA was.

We bowed to pressure and have got a PS2 for ds (nearly 6) this year, I would have liked to have held out for longer, but hey ho.
