my kids seem to have a deathwish

they have been playing with the scissors and knives. i have told them time and again it isnt a game. even playing they can hurt themselves badly. now one of them has gone and cut up some of their clothes. and they have decided to go down and show the cut school tie to their father.

How old are they and why can they reach them?

ds1 is 8.5. he can reach anything that isnt nailed to the ceiling.
the scissors he had access to coz they are in the pens drawer , and the ones in the cutlery drawer [as i laughingly call my plastic jug] which i use to cut pizza with.
and i am useless mom spending too much time on mn to know whats what.
we have all had a good telling of from dh.
