No experience here but it sounds like a nightmare to me. Hot, glaring sun and a baby/toddler doesn't sound particularly relaxing! I hope someone comes along with better advice but we are exploring the UK and Europe until DS (also one) is old enough to appreciate the difference between the beaches at Pembrokeshire and the Pacific :)

Our DD will be 17 months when we go to Pwhelli Haven site one and a half hours away. Thats all i feel able to go.

We took our 6 month old and 2 year old to Tunisia in September 4 years ago, and it was hot enough for them then really - how hot will it get in August? (Having said that they coped with the caribbean at 6 months and then 1 and 2.5 years and the great barrier reef at 9m and 2.2 so it's clearly not too much of a problem!)

It will be crazy hot in Tunisia in the summer. I really wouldn't go then with a one year old; I can't imagine you'd have much fun. Mid spring / mid autumn would be much better if you can go then.

Also, check FCO travel advice before you book anything; Tunisia hasn't been particularly stable lately! I don't think they're advising against travel there at the moment, but to be honest I would probably give it a miss for a while.

Been in Tunisia twice in Mai, first time DD4 was 1. It was fantastic because not too busy at that time of year.

We were in hotel (appartments) Diar Lemdina, half board and honestly I could not fault it either time.

I do not know about Tunisia now or in the next few months though. A good Tunisian friend of mine whose family still lives there was not very optimistic as to the way things seem to be going for the general Tunisian public. I have no idea how the tourism industry is going though.

We have only been at Easter, but friends have been in the summer and it is very hot! However, the big hotels have air con and there are loads of pools as well as the sea....

We love it there, they love children and will make your baby very welcome. I wouldn't be at all worried about the political situation - presuming you are going to a coastal resort, I really doubt you would have seen any trouble even last month. We are off to Egypt at Easter!

With regard to just the heat, we have been in Algeria to visit DH's family several times in August and with Dcs being very young (7 month old for the youngest) it is not too bad if you have the sea nearby and if you have air conditionning when indoors. Not ideal but doable.
