DD has got brilliant at knowing body parts and pointing at them. Tonight in the bath she was pointing her bits and saying "what's this?". any good suggestions for a phrase? Boys are so easy with willy.I don't want to use some ridiculous euphamism, "twinkle" seems to be the word of choice round here but is very twee (and we know a cat called twinkle so that's properly wierd".) Have debated the "proper anatomy words" but sounds bizarre from a toddler and anyway what would one say - "vulva", "labia"? think the girls at nursery would find that properly odd. A friend suggested "fanny" but when I was growing up this was practically aswear word so I really hate the idea of using it

I just say front bottom and back bottom. If they want more detail "What's this bit, what's that bit?" then I just give them the full names.

Willy and woo woo here. The boys (I have 2 ds's) do know the word penis though, although they seem to think its 'peanuts' so will sometimes mess around and pretend to fall over shouting 'oh my peanuts'.

We do balls for testicles. Not great but I couldn't imagine them walking around saying 'testicles' when they were little.

A friend's daughter used 'penny' for hers and she did get a bit confused at 'five currant buns in a baker's shop' and other nursery rhymes! My ds (6)asked me what my private parts were called, and was quite annoyed when I wouldn't provide anything more enlightening than 'private parts'. I tried to explain that there isn't a very good name for children to use for girls' private parts. He says balls for testicles and willy for willy! His dad used to call it his tap, which I think is rather sweet.

I've heard of minnies too, but what about the cars? Mini was my best friend's nickname at school, because she is four foot eleven and a half, so it doesn't sound right to me.

DS named his own testicles "baubles" this Christmas - and it has stuck!

why don't you tell her the correct name, but ask her if she what she would like to call it, and suggest some "nicknames"
