...But he has done some wees and farts. My mum (a nurse) is here and has told me not to worry and I've got the health visitor coming round later I just wanted to check.

Thank you xxx

I don't think you need to worry :)

conceptionconfusion · 16/03/2011 12:07

IME that's totally normal. DS only did one poo in the first 4 days. As long as you are getting wet nappies I wouldn't panic.

Congratulations on your new baby! Hope your HV can put your mind at rest. Babies can go for days without a poo, especially bf babies - then you just have to worry about how explosive it's going to be when it does arrive. Wink

Nothing to worry about, if you think about it your baby probably hasn't taken that much on board foodwise in the last 3 days either...

They don't need much food in the first 3 days - hence why mum's milk doesn't come in until day 3... And then it's mostly collostorum which is all used by the baby to boost its immune system etc etc...

Once you're BFing then there is very little waste in BM so your baby will do less poos than a bottle fed baby as formula has more stuff in it that the baby doesn't need.

The only exception to this I know of is a boy who was lactose intolerant so pooed about 5 times a day despite being BFed...

My BF DS used to poo once every 10 days which was great as we were using washable nappies :) Once he was onto solids he pooed once a day...

GregorSamsa · 16/03/2011 12:18

Be warned, the longer he waits, the bigger it'll be when it does come. My 3month old once went 14 days without a poo. When he finally did one, it was a 'put on a biohazard suit and fill the bath' job. Grin

Thank you so much! Have really put my mind to rest! :)

My dd used to only go once a week and we used to have to change her nappy halfway through to stop it over flowing!! It used to be the highlight of our week!

KnitterNotTwitter · 17/03/2011 16:04

One word of warning for later on... it's a bad idea to put a child who has 10 days worth of poo inside them in a bumbo... The poo has nowhere to go but up... Never seen poo spread so liberally - twas disgusting. Had to hose DS off in the bath.
