To those that conceived girls..

My friend is swaying for a dd (her first child!!!), I think swaying is rubbish and it's 50/50 she thinks otherwise.

Anyway, wanted to test the theory on a couple of swaying and non swaying factors to those who have dd's:

Pre-conception:
Did you have a calcium rich diet, lots of yoghurts, milk etc?
Did you drink lots of coffee/tea?
Did you drink alcohol?
Did you eat lots of red meat?
Did you conceive when the weather was rainy and wet?
Did you orgasm when conceiving??

btw I'm not a journo.

I have a friend who wanted a girl then a boy. She charted ovulation to aim for this. She had a girl then a boy. When you read it it totally makes sense as to why it would work

2 DDs here and not much to add to the debate save for this;

I usually always orgasm but specifically recall that on both occasions I conceived (neither planned) it was really poor sex. I had too much to drink (hate drunk sex) and didn't enjoy the experience. It has always struck me that these were funny times for conception to occur tho never thought about the gender angle.

Did you have a calcium rich diet, lots of yoghurts, milk etc? Can't remember, drank loads of milk when she was a baby but we had a milkman/milk mountain then
Did you drink lots of coffee/tea? No coffee, normal amount of tea (3 cups a dayish?)
Did you drink alcohol? Yes

Did you eat lots of red meat? Probably not as DH is veggie so don't tend to eat a lot of meat. Probably quite a lot of ham. Also was right after Christmas so more meat than usual but a lot of it probably white.
Did you conceive when the weather was rainy and wet? No idea, was probably cold though!
Did you orgasm when conceiving?? Again no idea, DD is two and a half now, but probably

Lots of coffee, lots of alcohol, lots of fags, lots of sun. We were living in Oman and I'd been told I wouldn't have children due to PCOS and failure of clomid.
She is 10 in May.

Did you conceive when the weather was rainy and wet? Yes, spring time, London, it was most likely raining.

Did you orgasm when conceiving?? Usually do orgasm.

I'll get back to you about DC2 who was conceived in August, hot hot humid summer day, no dairy, no coffee, no alcohol, no red meat,,, just can't have that stuff when it was as hot as it was and didn't have orgasm cause it was a quicky in a sandpit on our way back to IL's place while on 'vacation' and DD was asleep in the car. Don't worry, we left the doors open and parked her in the shade.

Did you drink lots of coffee/tea? a fair amount
Did you drink alcohol? ever? yes, not a huge amount though
Did you eat lots of red meat? none at all
Did you conceive when the weather was rainy and wet? I live in Scotland, the chances are fairly high, rofl - they're 5 days (and 4 years like, not just 5 days because that would be miraculous) apart, so similar time of year
Did you orgasm when conceiving?? I don't know, I wasn't trying to conceive DS, so I'm not sure exactly when it was and I was drunk with DD

I'm thinking maybe the drink thing has something in it? rofl

Did you conceive when the weather was rainy and wet? It was February so probably
Did you orgasm when conceiving?? Doubt it

The sex was definitely prior to ovulation so that fits with the girl-sperm-live-longer theory

We timed it for DC3 - have two DS's already. We got a girl. Didn't have a different diet for the third. I have no idea if it was raining!

Did you drink alcohol? Did back then yes tons, conception date 29th Dec!
Did you eat lots of red meat? Yes loads
Did you conceive when the weather was rainy and wet? It was very cold is all i remember
Did you orgasm when conceiving?? No

Hadn't been with her dad long so we were at it all the time, before and after ovulation so no hint there really.

doesnt matter it was out of my body (ivf) and all depended on the sperm which got there first. I cant tell you if the petri dish had a rich dairy diet or a quick alcoholic beverage... Its a load of crap basically lol.

Thats what i thought. The sperm determins the sex so its irrelevent what the mother does, I may be wrong

Yes I drink a lot of milk. Calm down a bit now but at the time of conception and since I was a teen I was drinking about 1 and half to two pints of semi skimmed a day.

Dont drink tea or coffee.

Did you drink alcohol?

Quit for one month after coming of pill and got pregnant. Prior to that month though I used to drink a lot of alcohol.

Did you eat lots of red meat?

Not particularly

Did you conceive when the weather was rainy and wet?

It was January so probably

Did you orgasm when conceiving??

Yes I always do. I have heard that makes you more likely to concieve and I think it works as I have been pregnant 3 times and I got pregnant within 1 month of trying each time.

Never heard of swaying. I am fairly sure that my diet was pretty much the same (I like wine, red meat and milk and drink moderate amounts of tea) when I conceived both of my children. They were both the result of pretty good sex as far as I can recall, and I've no idea about the weather (I'll hazard sunny for ds, conceived in August and cold with dd who was conceived at Christmas).

I suspect it's only on The Sims when what you eat or do has any impact on whether you have a boy or girl.

Surely the DH's diet has more to do with it?! And allegedly sexual position, re the slow but good stamina girl sperm swimmers (i.e not missonary)?

Sex 3-4 days pre-ovulation is more likely to achieve a girl, as the girl sperm are slower swimmers but have better staying power (so will survive longer pre-ovulation). Boy sperm don't last long but are faster, so you're more likely to have a boy if you have sex on day of/day before ovulation.

(disclaimer - this is all according to my book about charting your fertility - highly recommended!)

Looking at that list I would say it is utter bullshit. I've had one of each and there is no correlation between that list and what I had.
