Hi everyone,

My little one is 7 week's old, this is my 3rd bubba, my other 2 kids started sleeping through at 6 weeks.

She is a very good girl feeds every 4 hours, bed time routine of bath, massage milk at 7pm and down in basket. then her 11pm one she just isnt interested at all!! she will drink like a ounce if that, my other 2 would just sleep through if they didnt want it, but she seams to just have a habbit of waking, i give her the dummy and it doesnt work!! how can i get her through to the next feed???

p.s i wouldnt try unless i knew she didnt need it so im not being a mean mummy Smile

How do you know she doesn't need feeding? She's only 7 weeks old, the vast majority of babies wake in the night a few times at that age, surely. Just because your other two DCs didn't doesn't mean she doesn't need feeding now.

So she wakes up at night and you just give her a dummy? Have you tried feeding her? She is still so tiny, most babies haven't even learnt the difference between night and day at this point

I am surprised a 7 week old only wants/needs feeding every 4 hours during the day and even more surprised you think it's abnormal a 7 week old baby is not sleeping through. They are not designed to!

xkatyx · 27/02/2011 17:26

Of course i have fed her lol, that is what i put in to my original post she wakes for it but does not want it, like i said i wouldn't make her skip it if i thought she wanted it.

She wakes at 11pm (which is fine) and i feed her but she will drink half an ounce if that, so i give her a cuddle and she goes back to sleep!!

I know she is tiny she is my baby .. i never asked how to make her stop drinking her milk, i just wanted some advice on how to get her out of the habbit IF she wasnt drinking it which she isnt.

And i know i'm lucky that she feed's every 4 hours she is a very good baby.

Also i do not think itsa abnormal she isnt sleeping through at all, infact again i am lucky she is trying to cut it out as i know some babies dont do this for a while!!!

And she does realise the diffrence between night and day.

Ok, soooo if she isn't hungry have you tried some water? Maybe she just wants a cuddle? Probably too young to have learnt to self settle

xkatyx · 28/02/2011 17:19

Yeah she has tried the water, really isnt interested at night, i think she is just waking out of habbit as she still wakes at 3 and drinks the whole bottle.

She is very good at setteling her self back down but as she wakes up doesnt want milk or dummy or water i give her a little cuddle. I dont like the thought of leaving her to cry either, maybe she will just get out of the habbit her self with time.

if you feed more often than 4 hourly during the day, then baby may sleep longer at night....

(or may not! 7 weeks is still pretty young!)

xkatyx · 28/02/2011 20:02

She has kinda done it her self, I spoke to the health visitor and she said she is doing well and that they usually drop a feed about this age! Also on the back of the milk box it said 8 weeks have 5 feeds a day instead of 6.

I'm not complaining if she wants to drop it that's fine, just if that's what she wants to do I would like her to get out of the habbit of waking , mind u she did well last night and didn't wake till 2 so it looks like she is doing it her self now :)
