I got the red mist this morning when I saw the post. Big sweary rant, do not read if easily offended by loud sweary shouting.

There was a letter from the SGU in the post this morning. Silly me, thought it might be a letter of entitlement. I might finally be on the way to getting my bursary. [Insert bitter laugh here]

It was asking to see my birth certificate so that they could verify my d.o.b and then begin processing my application. It was dated 30 June 2005.

Now, setting aside for a moment the teeny weeny insignificant fact that my birth certificate was sent up with my application in the first place, and I have even had it back from the SGU along with all the other official stuff I sent them, so they've already bloody seen it - WTF are they doing writing letters in June and not posting them out until October?????

I was actually shaking when I read it. I am so fucking angry with this useless fucking shower of fuckers. My forms have obviously just been sitting around gathering dust on someone's desk, they obviously think they've sent a letter out in June asking to see extra documentation and I just haven't bothered replying. So my application hasn't even begun to be processed yet and won't be for weeks, probably.

WTF do they think I'm living on? How do they think I'm paying my childcare fees, or my travel expenses into college, or for my books? Not to mention those little luxuries like, ummm, food?

And of course, it's Saturday, so no chance of speaking to anyone for another 2 days, and I'm not in college until Weds anyway, and how the hell am I supposed to manage? It's going to be months until I get a penny.

USELESS FUCKING BASTARDS

On a more helpful note, I think you have every basis for just insisting they fast-track it. If it's dated June, WTF have they done with it, eh? I would phone on Monday, yes I know it's two whole days away, and rant and rave in a very insistent and articulately aggressive manner.

snafu, echo MI: they need to sort this within days now....having kept you waiting months. you have every reason to be livid, and they have no justification in keeping your bursary from you for much longer...we all know that when it comes down to it, these things could be done in a couple of days, but get left on some f&ckers desk for months....try to forget about it until monday and then let them have it.
..

HRHWickedwaterwitch · 15/10/2005 13:58

Put it in writing now, and then re-do it tomorrow with all the swear words deleted. And then post it on Monday, having phoned to get the name of the most senior person you can possibly send it to. I'm very impressed at the way you've managed to swear and use so many italics and bolds and so on

snafu · 15/10/2005 13:59

thanks MI. Assuming I can get through on Monday, I will certainly give 'em hell in a very calm and eloquent way...(Apologies for being so appallingly slack in replying to your last email, btw, events have somewhat overtaken me and I haven't even had time for MN! )

Actually, the more I think about it, the stranger it is because I'm sure I didn't even get the forms to them until the beginning of July anyway. So what is going on?

The fact remains they've done bugger-all with my application and clearly haven't even looked at it properly when it first arrived. Oh, I hate them, hate them, hate them.

Is it the NHS busary people or the loan people? The loan people are usually pretty good, the busary people suck.

My busary has not even been processed yet, bahhh.

snafu · 15/10/2005 14:12

Bursary people, smurfgirl. They suck hugely. Anyone would think September and the start of the academic year came as a surprise to them.

And the website says a 20-day turnaround on applications? Excuse me while I hold my sides together, they're splitting.

Oh buggery hell, Snafu! Agree with getting it fast-tracked by being very scary, yet eloquent and reasonable, but with frosty undercurrents and overtones of menace.

I was going to start a thread called "How are you doing, Snafu?" today! I guess now I know!

How's the course?

Roobie · 15/10/2005 14:17

No excuse seeing as it was July you applied, but I expect the date is an error - probably should have been 30 September 2005? You know how it is when you use old letter templates - there is always something that doesn't get changed. Doesn't excuse anything though...give 'em hell!

ScummyMummy · 15/10/2005 14:18

Snaf- I know this won't help but that is one of the most excellent rants I have ever read ever. Yhey are tossers aren't they? I haven't got my social work student bursary yet either- grr.

hunkerpumpkin · 15/10/2005 14:20

Please don't call them twatnosed cockfucks when you actually ring them though, Snaf

God, I love swearing

Marina · 15/10/2005 14:21

Snafu, is there a Personal Tutor or a hatchet-faced Registrar you can set on them on Monday morning?

I am really sorry to see this

snafu · 15/10/2005 14:24

Aw, really, hunker? What a lovely thought I have been neglecting MN shamefully over the last few weeks...

The course is fab. It really is. I am having a whale of a time, teaching is excellent, cohort are super. However, the real deal begins on Monday - ante- and post-natal ward two days a week until Xmas - and I am rigid with terror, tbh... It's as if I've spent the last 10 months swanning around saying 'I'm going to train as a midwife, lalalalala' and now the enormity of what that actually entails has finally hit me and I have The Fear in a big way.

However, I look a complete fox in my uniform, so that's some comfort

OP posts:
snafu · 15/10/2005 14:25

Should clarify - I meant 'lovely thought' at the thread, not at twatnosed cockfucks...

Although...

OP posts:
hunkerpumpkin · 15/10/2005 14:27

Yep, really - have wondered how you were getting on and hoped you were enjoying it - plus I've missed you on here!

Glad it's all going to well - it will all be second nature really, really soon, but having The Fear is good as it means you're taking it seriously and really want to succeed. If you weren't bothered, that would be really scary!

As for fox-like midwives...not sure it'll catch on, tbh. Doesn't your brush-like tail get in the way?

hunkerpumpkin · 15/10/2005 14:27

I like that phrase. Just don't use it when DS is present

snafu · 15/10/2005 14:32

I just tuck my tail into my tights and hope Infection Control don't notice...

OP posts:
hunkerpumpkin · 15/10/2005 14:39

Ah, cunning. But then, I suppose you would be, being a fox and all

edam · 15/10/2005 14:43

Bags of sympathy snafu - do you think it would help to cc the letter to the chief exec or whatever of the organisation responsible? Or to contact your MP?

Something similar happened to me years ago so I remember how frightening and how frustrating it was. These organisations are ludicrous. My sister recently got caught up in something like this too (student nurse). You do wonder how they expect people to fucking eat, don't you?

SoupDragon · 15/10/2005 19:23

pmsl. Not at the subject but at the rant

Smurfgirl · 16/10/2005 18:38

Snafu I am SO jealous you are on placement, I am still waiting for mine to come through, I am hoping for something exciting though

The busary people never answer the phone, its better writing/e-mailing. Good luck!

What is your uniform BTW? I got mine on Friday and spent the afternoon swanning round in it.

screwyslittlegoblins · 16/10/2005 21:27

Went to student services and they have a direct line to the bursary people may be woth a try at your uni.
I've finally received payment without any childccare
Defo about the fasttracking!!!

snafu · 17/10/2005 10:26

I've just emailed my financial services bod at uni and she will try and get in touch with them - they have a 'special line' to SGU apparently... Been ringing all morning to no avail. Gits.

Smurfgirl, my uniform is white with pale grey and blue stripes. It could be worse, I guess (I don't really look foxy at all ) - I got a dress which is not too bad and a tunic/trousers combo which is really desperately frumpy. Plus, so much nylon I give off sparks as I walk.

It's two hours until placement begins - eek. Have just dropped ds off at his childminder's and realised that I probably won't see him now until 4pm tomorrow That's the bit I really hate... Hope you get something good for your placement!
