I put olive oil in my baby's bath water. It worked fine, and isn't irritating to their skin.

It's fine if you like your baby to smell of chips!!!!!

Seriously, that's all we used, as DS has exczema (sp)

just water. the vernix (the white covering on babies skin) is very mpoisturising, and should be left on for as long as possible. dd3 had a water only bath at 3 days old as she was sick.

And we only use water now, as anything else irritates his skin. They don't really need anything else.

Napier's Mother & Baby care line. This is small, local herbalist shop.

i do use some soap on her now, but am trying to see if i can afford some nice dermotology friendly ones. but i have a 3yr old who sometimes squeezes whole bottles of soap and shampoo out, so i'd have to hide it.

Didn't use anything but water for dd for several months. She's 6 months now and I just squirt a little bit of Johnson's night time bath. She moves around a lot but it's only her hands, feet and neck that get dirty really.

Only ever used a bit of Johnson's baby bath foam, no speicial soap, just used the bubbles

You can - and should - just use plain water on a newborn. I think there is evidence that anything else can be a risk factor for exzema in some babies. Having said that, dd is now 8 months, goes in with her brother under the supervision of her dad and god knows what's in the bath
