I know I ought to vet it myself but can't bring myself to sit through an episode. Grin Is the general opinion that its ok or a bad influence?

I seem to rememeber a thread some years ago saying that it encouraged girls to be stroppy and bad mannered. DD wasn't interested in the programme at the time but is now.

I do let my dc watch it sometimes. They watch it occasionally if it's on. I can't say it's affected my dc adversley or anything.

I don't like it though. From what I've seen it's dreary and depressing like EastEnders for children. I find Jaqueline Wilson like that though and can't for the life of me understand why she is so highly thought of as a children's writer. Dd went through a short phase of reading her books but not for long.

My DSs aged 9 and 6 watch it and I've seen chunks of episodes although not sat through a whole one. Watching it has had no negative impact on their behaviour and to me it seems better than a lot of what is on CBBC. We have also read the book.

DD (aged 7) likes it. I told her if she ever starts being stroppy etc it will be banned. So far all that's happened is very astute conversations about why children are in care etc - she is happy to turn off the TV whenever I ask though. A friend who is a teacher (years 5 and 6) banned it because her DD started behaving in the Beaker style. It was off for a month but is allowed again now I think. Dismal stuff though. She laughed like a drain at Just William. Reality is OK but nothing wrong with a bit of jolly old fun. Horrid Henry is terrible. What an arsehole he's going to be. Naughty kids need a bit of charm and he has none.
