First time mum here... would be grateful for some advice!!

For the last couple of days i've noticed that the skin on my 2 week old son's scrotum is peeling, and today this spread to his little tinker too. It's not particularly red, and there's no sign of nappy rash elsewhere. We're using reusable nappies and reusuable wipes. I've been on antibiotics for a wound infection...

So... is this nappy rash? thrush? a reaction to the essential oils in the wipes? just newborn skin peeling?

Help! Have been using metanium and this morning put a bit of canesten on, and i think we'll use cotton wool and water to wipe him with for a few days. Anything else we should be doing?!

Thanks!

Doesn't sound like thrush at all,so I would stop using the canesten, and also not bother with the metanium unless your baby is very red and sore (My dd had a really bad reaction to matanium.)Newborn's skin does often peel,I would keep up with the water and cotton wool, dabbing clean rather than wiping where possible.Unless it looks inflamed or rashy in which case see the GP.I found the Weleda baby oil very gentle and soothing on dry skin on my newborns.

Newborns tend to be peely in various places. It's usually cosmetic so can be left alone if it isnt sore. You can put a mild oil on to moisturise if you like(I used almond massage base) but nothing else. Ask your HV to take a look if you need reassurance or if it looks sore.
