DS (4.5) has stopped sucking his thumb (yay!) but now can't get to sleep (boo!)

He was a class master at self-soothing with his thumb, but since giving up a few weeks ago he just can't get to sleep Sad. We've had tears and tantrums every night...staying with family over Christmas was a nightmare as he just ran amok. I feel so sorry for him as he really wants to get to sleep, but I'm also getting utterly fed up with the carry on.

Any suggestions for a replacement "soothing" activity?

Hi, sorry i have no advice to you i'm afraid but didn't want to read and run. My DS is just 4 and sucks his thumb and i'm worried about how he will get to sleep when he stops. Was the decision to stop his own? Could he not just continue sucking at night while he gets used to not sucking his thumb? I know my friends DS stopped sucking in the day but still sucks at night. My DS turned 4 on monday and at the weekend said when i'm 4 i'm won't suck my thumb anymore as his friend doesn't, but i think he lasted half a day lol!!!It's still too much of a comfort for him. Fortunately his teeth aren't too bad but i'm worried about his 2.5 yr old sister as her teeth are starting to stick out and the dentist has told us she has to stop but i've no idea how to stop her!
