how often do you bath your dc?

i have 2, 4.5yo and 2yo, when 4.5yo was an only child we used to bath everynight, with arrival of dc2 its now every 2nd night. bath them both together.

i remember when i was young, it was one bath a week with my siblings!

i am shattered. i can usually muster up the energy to be cheery, happy go lucky mummy, but today i feel blah, no energy, feeling down... relentlessness of it all getting to me and it's bath night and i'm thinking of pushing it out another day although i probably won't as i'll just feel guilty... sigh!

just throwing this out there while the dc are eating!

DD, aged 3 has decided she prefers showers. Hmm
She has a shower most nights, a bath maybe once a week (so I can give her hair a thorough nit check without getting drenched) and strip washes when I'm shattered and can't be bothered, or if she's been up a bit later than normal.
I'm actually trying to encourage her into strip washes more because it's quicker and saves on water.

When DS was a baby it was nightly but now he's older we only do it around 3 times a week. He swims once a week so showers then too. DD is only tiny so gets bathed when she's vomited all over herself or shat up the back of her vest ... so about 47 bloody times a day Grin

LeakMyWiki · 07/12/2010 21:33

Every night.

i bath every day not cause i feel 2 year old needs it but its part of the routine

Shauri · 07/12/2010 21:44

Only once a week Blush or when they are messy/ have been swimming. All 3 DC were in pavlik harnesses from about 4-16 weeks so couldn't have baths then DD1 had severe excema where her skin peeled and baths made it worse.

Orissiah · 08/12/2010 11:33

Twice a week for DD 2.5yrs now it's freezing; usually three times a week when not so cold; and in summer then most nights. Flannel wash in between.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 08/12/2010 13:05

When DD was a baby it was daily or more often because she adored/s water and it calmed her.
when we lived in Bangkok it was twice daily showers. Now she has a bath or shower every other day. That is the aim at least, sometimes it can be once or twice a week.

sarahtigh · 08/12/2010 13:15

3 times a week bathing every day not good for skin dries out natural oils etc, but would do extra bath like when DH lets her crawl in sawdust!!!!!!

SkyBluePearl · 08/12/2010 22:27

twice a week or more if they are grubby - which is rare. They don't need it as part of the bed time routine but instead do tea, quick hand/face wash, get into PJ's, read with milk/snack and then bed at 6.30 - awake at 7.15. When we do bath we all get in and spend an hour and a half reading/pretending to swim/playing with toys.

BlueberryPancake · 09/12/2010 11:34

At this time of year, 2-3 times a week. In the summer, every day as they get covered in sun cream and dirt as they play outside all the time and actually get dirty. They are 3 and 5. Also, don't feel that you have to do it as a 'routine' at bedtime. Some kids actually 'wake up' if they have a bath and are more difficult to put to bed, and for others (such as DC) have much more fun if they have a bath in the afternoon, before tea. They are less tired, they don't fight in the bath, and they can play in there for ages.

DS has showers (he's 2.1) - we started at our old flat as there wasn't a bath just a shower cubicle, and now he's just used to them.

He has a shower twice a week first thing in the morning - DH does it. He has eczema so we wouldn't bathe him more than this anyway - even using moisturising oils the water still really dries his skin out.

If we're in a rush, DH just showers DS at the same time as his shower - much quicker and easier, but DH doesn't like it as it's not a very relaxing wash for him!

daisystone · 12/12/2010 11:35

Our newborn is bathed 2-3 times a week. She doesn't need any more than that

togarama · 12/12/2010 12:24

2-3 times a week DD comes in the bath with me. We wash hands, face and bum in the sink as needed. I wouldn't do it more often as I find it boring, unnecessary and wasteful of water.

Onetoomanycornettos · 12/12/2010 13:08

Grubby child (dd2): 3 times a week or more
Clean child (dd1): 2 times a week

bacon · 12/12/2010 16:16

Everynight? how do you do it???? There isnt the time!

twice a week now and really have never seen it necessary to bath everynight. 19m & 5yr old

I remember 2x a week when I was growing up.

Usually a wednesday and weekend. Never worries me but struggle to get through all the other chores and endless other more important things to do.

I like to get them into bed early these days so its impossible to fit it all in.

I see nothing wrong with this, a good flannel works a trick.

starfishmummy · 13/12/2010 23:41

Just a thought....

Everyone mentions bathing at bedtime but it doesn't have to be then. Our Ds has a disability and as a baby he was very sweaty; he still has continence issues overnight so for the sake of everyone's sense of smell, he has a morning bath. We have to bathe him but have it down to a fine art so it doesn't take long.

Boisbach · 17/12/2010 04:42

Once a week. Sometimes less. He gets his face and bits washed twice a day. He's 6 mo. Personally I think the whole bath bedtime routine claim is rubbish. Other things can be used for a routine.

notevenachristmousie · 17/12/2010 05:00

Saturday and Sunday mornings, and probably once or twice in the week. I work full time - when I'm on holiday, it's a bath a day, so probably would bath her more if I was a SAHM. She's almost 4.

tryingtobemarypoppins2 · 19/12/2010 21:59

Twice.....a day!

notcitrus · 19/12/2010 22:27

Once a week or less, usually on the weekend. He's started really enjoying it finally (age 2.3) so I will try to do it a bit more often.
He's a fastidious small person who doesn't get very mucky.

He's at nursery 3 days a week and by the time he's home and had milk and biscuit it's bedtime.

anonymosity · 20/12/2010 01:08

my dcs now aged 3 and 4 get bathed every night, only really have a night off if they have a fever and need to go straight to bed, which is rarely. Baths every night is the only way I can ensure they are properly clean from top to bottom (mainly bottom) before bed.

ensure · 20/12/2010 21:16

Probably three times per fortnight. She loves the bath but it makes her eczema much worse so we really have to limit it sadly.

Jinglesomeballs · 21/12/2010 10:38

Once a week, on a sunday eveing, DS has mild exahm so was adviced this.

But tbh we did this anyway.

SkyBluePearl · 22/12/2010 21:27

Yes i love weekend morning baths best too. We all jump in together after breakfast and always spend ages chatting/reading/playing with toys in the bath.
