Which instrument for a 6 year old keen to learn?

dd1 is very keen to learn the piano or basically any musical instrument. She will be 6 in December. I have no idea which instrument would be a good one or whether 6 is too young for the piano - advice please?

Violin sound can be improved by using better quality strings. We've just bought a 3/4 for DD and at her teacher's recommendation asked for the strings to be upgraded.

Moozooboozoo, are you a cello teacher? And are you in North London? Or do you happen to know a cello teacher who is in N. London? Ds's cello teacher moved away, so we're currently teacherless. He's still v. basic (open strings) but was enjoying it, so I'm keen for him to carry on.
