DS's first birthday (and Christmas) is approaching, and we're planning to buy him a present or two... plus others are asking what to buy.
What are the best value toys that you have bought for your older baby/toddler? I want to get something that he'll really play with and enjoy, preferably for longer than a few months. Obviously all children are different but it would be good to see what others have found to be worth getting. TIA! :)

wooden blocks - 6mo likes 'chasing' them and my 2yo and nearly 5yo love making huge towers with them, at 1 they used to spend ages knocking over the towers I made.

duplo - still used now.

stacking cups - have loads of different uses, nearly 5yo likes to draw around them and 2yo likes to take them in the bath.

DS got the Bubble Go Ride on for his 1st birthday.

I don't think these are available anymore, but there's bound to be a lot of similar things around now.

My DC both loved the push along things - one a Golden Labrador Dog on wheels and the other a trolley filled with alphabet building bricks. Used for years and still much loved.

Would also go with the building blocks. We had/have a tub of 100 wooden blocks which DS' aged nearly 7 and 4 still play with!
