what age to stop letting them play naked in the garden?

DD is 3.4 and she is currently running around naked in the garden (painting the shed with water). It's mostly shaded and its 5pm and not very hot so not worried about the sun. Our garden can be seen by the neighbours on either side (if they crane out of their windows) and anyone who jogs along the field at the bottom. Should I make her put her swimsuit on?

I wouldn't.

Twiglett · 12/09/2005 17:12

when they don't want any more

lucy5 · 12/09/2005 17:13

I wouldnt, theyve got years of being covered up. My dd is 4.9 and takes her clothes off at every opportunity.

when they don't want to anymore

flamesparrow · 12/09/2005 17:41

Like Twiglett said (a variety of ways )... when they don't want to anymore.

SoupDragon · 12/09/2005 17:47

Probably by about 38 I think. It gets a little embarrassing then.

We have a walkway at the bottom of our garden which is used at most by 2 or 3 dog walkers and I have no problem with my kids running around naked.

Eldest is 10 but is mortified at the thought of being naked in front of us So it doesnt last forever.

oh good soupdragon I have a couple more years then

frannyf · 12/09/2005 19:50

When I was a nanny the 4 girls I looked after decided they wanted to streak in the garden. Can't remember all their ages but the eldest was old enough to wear a bra at the time! However they did mostly keep their underwear on, except the youngest who was probably about 8 or 9. I couldn't see a problem with it - I think when they get old enough to be too embarrassed to do it any longer then it is the right time to stop.
