Washing brand new baby clothes...

... do I have to? Surely I should just be able to put brand new clothes straight onto the baby? I'll be doing enough washing once baby arrives! What do people think? Did you wash all your brand new baby clothes before putting them on your child?

washed basic sleepsuits and vests and coming home outfit, but left the rest in packets in the drawers with labels still attached and receipts. just as well really as ds was 10lb 6oz so all newborn clothes had to be returned for 0-3 month.

I did but only beacuse I had turned into a crazed power freak reagrding all washing and cleaning - shrieking "WE NEED TO CLEAN THE SHED". I then put them all into lavender-paper drawers and poor DS reeked of it for months . Things have been VERY downhill since

oops pressed submit too soon!

i preferred to wash them because of the chemicals that they spray clothes with and plus i suppose my real thing was using loads of fabric conditioner to make sure that they were soft for my precious baby!

I washed all of mine and have just got dd's stuff out of the loft and washed it for baby number two who is allegedly due today even though they were washed and put away in vacum bags I get funny about chemicals/musty smells.

yes, baby skin is sensitive, you never know what they washed or treated the fabric with during the manufacturing process.

Interstingly, ds1 gets mild eczema in the summer, but ds2 never gets it, but his brand new baby skin reacted very badly to the "straight out of the packet" babygros.

Never occurred to me to so so until I read of people who did it on mn. Still didn't.
