Starting a new thread for a new academic year.

Previous thread here

If you are currently studying a course or about to start one (at any level) please come and join us. We offer each other support, tips and encouragement, plus we use the thread as a means of procrastination Grin

We started off the previous thread with a short introduction so here's mine -

I'm 30 years old. Recently married with a 5 year old dd. I completed my degree in Education studies in July and I'm about to start my primary PGCE in September.

Well, started back last night, then did my normal thing of going to the library and borrowing the core text books which I will renew all year instead of paying a hundre quid or so to buy books that will be out of date in a few years!

LollipopViolet · 23/09/2010 18:14

Started back today.

So much work...

Scared

dylsmum1998 · 24/09/2010 21:20

its very scary at uni, well not the friends I am making but the readings etc I am drowning are very scary

Are you enjoying it though dylsmum?

I'm loving my course and I have met some great people.

The downside is that I have so much work to get through that DD has been on the ps3 since 7:30, and will no doubt be on there a while longer, so I can get some of it done.

Yes I am loving it Mia like you have met some fantastic people and look forward to going in. Just shattered and so much work to plow through.

KatyMac · 25/09/2010 08:29

I've booked my next one & I want to get this one finished (this weekend) so 5000 words by Sunday night.....maybe?

Only 706 done

LollipopViolet · 25/09/2010 17:08

OK, I'm actually ahead now! I've got my film idea sorted, met the contributors today and they're happy for a documentary to be made. It's a local wheelchair basketball team, so should make for a really interesting documentary :)

Maybe this year won't be so bad :)

KatyMac · 25/09/2010 17:22

Glad you got out of the cupboard........

I lost my impetus Sad

MiaWallace · 26/09/2010 08:19

Sounds like it will make a good documentary Lollipop

Hi. I'm new to this thread. Beginning 1st year of Eng Lit deagree tomorrow. I've just taken a look on VLE at course module guides, contents, reading etc.

SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is this reaction normal???

Mspontipine · 26/09/2010 17:49

"Degree" Blush !!!!

Mspontipine · 26/09/2010 17:50

Must add. LP with 7 year old. Will I get to spend any time with him??

esor · 26/09/2010 18:14

Hi Mspontipine, like you I start my first year tomorrow. I have a DD who is 6, but luckily have a supportive husband. I too am completely thrown by looking at the course modules. I am trying to remain calm (and failing badly).

Mspontipine · 26/09/2010 21:00

Thanks for your reply esor - hopefully I'll be feeling better soon - just been on Facebook and there's a whole group of us feeling the same - we all did Access to HE together. My main worry is finding the time to put enough work in. I do have a very supportive mum and sister but at 40 this does feel extremely selfish and self indulgent of me hate to ask the others to put themselves out for me and half of me thinks they're offering cuz they feel sorry for my poor abandoned ds though they totally piffle me and say they're proud of me and what I'm doing and happy to help.

Speak soon and let's see how we feel in a few days/weeks :)

LollipopViolet · 27/09/2010 17:17

Ugh, must stop procrastinating and WORK.

To be fair to myself, I'm being very good and trying to get a bit done each day, but today we got given 2 new bits of work, one for Friday, one for next Monday and my motivation is just....well, I'm motivated, but I think the weather is making me feel all flat and lethargic and horrible. Must work must work must work.

Done the front cover for one document, now for the actual words!

AspieGirl · 27/09/2010 22:32

First day back today, complained about my timetable, so they jiggled the lab groups. Now I'm only in three days....yay...what nice tutors they are :)

Rupeomatic · 27/09/2010 23:33

Hey all - had my first day today - I am now officially a student again - after 12 years away from study. It was quite a surreal day, I have to say, but I'm imagining by the end of the week it will all seem normal again.

I really ought to go to bed now, as I have to be up at 6.30am - but my head is spinning and I keep getting out my timetable and having 'just one more' look at it Wink

LollipopViolet · 28/09/2010 13:14

I managed to get some work done last night and am currently sitting in the uni library working. I've sent some emails, written a bit about my possible contributors and am now beginning the treatment, basically saying what the film will look and sound like :) Go me!

Ilythia · 28/09/2010 19:59

Evening all, it's going okay here, got a bit of a routine going, I am in uni every day from half 9 until either 3 or 4.30 so i take girls into nursery/school for 8ish and get to uni for half 8 so I cna get some studying coffee and gossiping in.
Then I get DD2 on the way home, either DH or my friend will have DD1 from school and I do nothing workwise until they are in bed, then I read/revise until 9ish or whenever I finish and then spendf time with DH, do lunchboxes, hide washing in wardrobe etc etc .
Handed in my first 2 pieces of work yesterday though, on time, and some still haven't. Subject matter is getting tricky now as it has been 15 years since I last did it, and most on the course did it a few years ago, so am getting left behind a bit.
School placement starts on monyda though! SO excited!

bubzmummy86 · 30/09/2010 10:33

hello ! im 24 my ds is 5 and im in my 1st year at college art and design :)

LollipopViolet · 30/09/2010 10:47

Well, for those who didn't see my thread in Chat, I have a filming job on Sunday for the RNIB!!

£50 pay and if all goes well a reference. Getting ready to spend ages on the phone to different people to sort everything out today.

MiaWallace · 30/09/2010 18:12

good luck lollipop

dylsmum1998 · 02/10/2010 22:43

good luck lollipop Smile

Ilythia glad you have found routine

I am getting there, need a much better routine for the evenings although I am struggling with this as I just want to curl up and sleep when I get in Hmm

oh well am off on placement soon so they days won't be so long (although I suspect just as exhuasting, if not more so)

I was feeling a bit overwhelmed and fed up in the week, not helped by issues with the library/ computer systems in uni Hmm

Have done mountains of readings tonight so feeling a bit better

Mspontipine · 02/10/2010 23:30

I quit after day 2. How crapola is that :(

MiaWallace · 03/10/2010 14:57

Why Mspontipine? What happened?
