We're going to meet some friends at the Greenwich Observatory on saturday lunchtime. We live on the borders of Hertfordshire, Essex and North London. Does anyone have any good advise about the best way to get there (2 adults and 1 2 year old). We do have a car but DH says that he doesn't fancy driving all the way to Greenwich on a saturday morning. A friend have suggested driving to Canary Wharf, then DLR then a 10 min walk but alwhogh I wouldn;'t go as far as saying I dont trust said friend I do know from experience that he thinks everything takes 10 mins!!

We always take the DLR and get off at the Greenwich Cutty Sark stop. THe DLR is fun for children and has lifts at all stations. It is probably a 10 minute walk from the Cutty Sark (possibly 15) but it is up a very steep hill.

I would definitely NOT drive to Greenwich itself, parking is a nightmare and the centre of the town very congested, all the time.
Parking round Canary Wharf is definitely viable, McKenzie, and although Bells is absolutely right to point out that your friend has omitted the 1 in 5 gradient of the slope up to the Observatory, and it's only a 15 minute walk, there is also a (not free) hopper bus that takes people from the gates of the park up to the Observatory site if you really don't fancy the climb. The paths up are quite well-contoured and hard-paved for buggies.
