We are looking at booking our holiday to majorca on 2nd 3rd sept but ds and dp don't have a passport, we will be sending forms off on Friday do you think we will get them back in time? I will be paying for the check and send service which says 2 weeks but can not gurantee ? Has anyone just got a passport and how long did it take to arrive?

What should we do?

Risk it and book?
Or wait and then book?

Thanks this is a nightmare,

Hiya, needed one for ds went to p.office and paid for the checking service and they send them priority...it came back in 6 days. The bloke said average turnaround is 2 wks at the moment so you should be fine and can start looking forward to your holiday

bumpylump · 09/08/2005 20:45

Sorry forgot to say, that was only 2 wks ago.

SoupDragon · 09/08/2005 20:45

Should be OK but there are never any guarantees. Mine have always come back in under a fortnight without the check and send service.

BunnyBoo · 09/08/2005 20:45

oh this is good news keep it all coming

Ours took 15 days Check and Send through the PO at the beginning of July (peak Scottish holiday time!)

spacecadet · 09/08/2005 20:51

ive never used check and send so only used the snail service! i would just book the holiday.

BunnyBoo · 09/08/2005 20:52

Yikes! I would have thought people with school kids would need there passports by now and peak time would have gone by, i think i will cross my fingers and hope for the best, we are in the south east.

Did check and send service about 4 weeks ago and it arrived within 2 weeks, so sure you will be fine. have a nice holiday!

BunnyBoo · 09/08/2005 21:04

Thanks Merlin sure we will its a much needed one!

I got a full birth certificate when we registered ds so that should be ok! Will have to go and read through the boring notes.

Just need their birth certificate and 2 photos I think.

Springchicken · 11/08/2005 09:33

Make sure the birth certificate's have both parents names on!
DD and I have had problems with this - had to get copies etc.

loulabelle222 · 11/08/2005 09:37

i got ds passport back in a week and didn't do check and send. Had to do some stupid stuff with it though. like send my birth certificate off and where my parents and dp parents were born and married (how dumb) because we were born in 83 not 82! load of rubbish!
