OK, what am I good for?

I'm not very good at writing (as you all know but I liked Spider's suggestion: 'We the undersigned wish to show our solidarity with the Muslim communities of the UK, who may feel confused and beleaguered by current events and by their portrayal in the media. In this spirit, we ask the print and broadcast media to redouble their efforts to promote awareness that those responsible for the acts of terror carried out in London do not represent the Islamic community as a whole."

I believe that usimg a symbol is a very good idea, I was not in Spain at the time of the MAdrid attacks but was there in a terrorist atrocity perpetrated by ETA a few years before. A symbol was used then by all national TV broadcasters. I believe that sign (just a tiny graphic in one corner of the screen) had a very powerful effect as a representation that people was not against the wasque or the Vasque Country, but against ETA terrorists. The symbol was used also in the the streets normally along a cry (is that the right word?) saying "ETA no, Vascos si". It definitively helped to separate the two issues succesfully.

abit of a solidatory message from NZ - despite Winston´s usual stirring of the immigration pot

Comdemning Muslims isolates entire community, says past president of Auckland University's Islamic Society. But that ..."There are definitely people who encourage extremist views and who sympathise with extremist views

From WWF Urge Tony Blair to use his leadership in Europe to stop us, our children, our wildlife and our environment being exposed to hazardous man-made chemicals.

That's a good example Chandra Too. I think we should ask for soemthing like that, though I understand that Spidy's probably right. But at least we can ask.

Afew US activities world wide since just the 1970´s

This list is from Michael Moore´s ´Bowling for Columbine´website - featured in the film. I am sure there are other lists around on the web, but he is quite well known.

At the risk of further being seen as 6th form and reactionary, I feel that whilst little known facts may well be upsetting, it is what we do with it creatively and humanely that really counts.

monkeytrousers · 02/08/2005 08:39

Did anyone hear Hazel Blear on Radio 4 this morning talking about supporting Muslim communities?

Going to try and get my arse into gear today and get this thing online. Have builders coming though so don't know if I'll manage it today.

Just thought I'd add that the Unite Against Terrorism site have asked if we (as a 'mums' forum) would like to show our support for mothers in Baghdad?

Found this too \link{http://riverbendblog.blogspot.com/iraqblog}

Iraq?s war on women

´Violence and intimidation against women are escalating across Iraq. The world?s commitment is needed to halt this assault on human and democratic rights, says Lesley Abdela.´

Just as I check up you post the online petition! Bravo and well done MT xxx

now you can play once again in the land of MN

monkeytrousers · 03/08/2005 11:18

Feel a bit crap. All those days of effort for such a short paragraph! Lets hope it catches on anyway. Thanks for signing! I think I'm going to take a break from MN today! 'Specially after last night's fiasco!! Thanks for your support too. What a team!

OP posts:
Papillon · 03/08/2005 11:21

I think short and sweet is more readable. The petition on Islam against terror site is so long that most people would not read it.

A break is always good. I will bump up the petition later in the day so you go and breath the fresh air for abit. (((()))

monkeytrousers · 03/08/2005 11:23

Thanks Pap's.

And thanks to everyone else who contributed to the debate! x
