looking for info on my grandfather's family

for personal reasons, i'm looking for information on my dad's family. i use all the normal websites: friends and genes reunited and i've dabbled with ancestry.com and manx geneaology-he's from the isle of man. does anyone know of any website that deals-cheaply- with information on ancestors particularly from the isle of man. don't mind paying a little but don't want to waste money and time either. i know of the website 1837?onlines-something like that!-but i'm unable to use it as can't download the software needed. more to the point is there anyone out there from the isle of man?

are there public records offices all over the place? I know there's one not far from me in richmond.

what about local libraries, or electoral rolls...

useful information might be gleaned from there...

oh, yes thats true.
I got loads of family tree stuff from public records office and then from local newspaper archives.
I live in the area of my relatives though so it was easy.
Do you live on the isle of man?
