We were about to put an offer on a place in Lewisham, but got scared at the prospect of awful primaries.... We are now thinking about lovely Clapton in Hackney, I know the area as I lived in Dunlace Road for 6 years when we did not have ds, so i know about its reputation, i know it is scruffy, etc. Can anybody down in Clapton convince me that it is a good area for families? This morning walked around the area and though I think Homerton High Street is the most depressing sight in the whole world, I liked what I saw!!! Can you tell me that you and your kids are happy in Clapton? I believe Millfields and Rushmore are good schools, are any others?

. wish we'd known, we'd have come along. how's the car?

kid · 26/07/2005 17:59

The car is still sore!

Its gonna cost £350 now. Just need to get them to send me the door. NOt sure where its coming from but the phone code is 01254, any ideas?

I'll check if the fire brigade are visiting again and let you know. I'll send you some pics later.

hoxtonchick · 26/07/2005 18:03

I love Clapton, I love Clapton, Dinosaur's children go to Millfields with mine as you already know. It's very friendly, lots of lovely Turkish food shops, for those ingredients Nigella says you can only get at posh delis, big parks, good primary schools and the secondaries are improving.

Kid, i'm about to start teaching Y5 at Millfields so i'll meet your friend's DS, although he isn't in my class.

kid · 26/07/2005 19:37

How do you know he isn't in your class Doddle?

He is a very bright boy. He has the same name as my DS.

I am facing the hard truth that Clapton ain't as cheap as I thought, or anyway I cannot get the 3 bedroom with garden we would like. I knew we could not afford the 3 storey mansion but hey, developers are taking the piss. Will carry on looking in the area. Today somebody mentioned Walthamstow...and as much as I love my beloved Hackney I may go over for a wander. No idea about schools over there, so might create a new thread. To be honest I am fed up of living in a shoe box with a growing toddler.

Kid, I know he's not in my class because I know Avalon!!

Lewislewis, I used to teach in Walthamstow and know a bit about some of the schools so if you come up with an area I'll tell you anything I know.

kid · 26/07/2005 22:08

ahh, thats how you know !

lewislewis · 26/07/2005 22:26

Great Doddle, i will investigate in the next few days.

Doddle do you know anything about Edinburgh, South Grove and Thorpe Hall Schools, there seems to be some affordable property near these schools.
