just phoned my mum who has a family of dead blackbirds in her garden one was still alive and came round with a drink of water its silly how you forget to do simple things like putting water out for them until its to late- so i just though id remind everyone on behalf of our flying friends -please put a large bowl of water out in a quiet spot in your garden and maybe save the life of some birdies-thanks

Will do just that now.

morningpaper · 11/07/2005 15:39

Aw! I've just put some out about an hour ago.

The heat also gets to hedgehogs which drink LOADS - so leave it out overnight at ground level!

handlemecarefully · 11/07/2005 15:39

ummm - I'm not keen on birds (other than my chickens) always crapping on the kids climbing frame and my washing

handlemecarefully · 11/07/2005 15:39

sorry about the grisly blackbird find though

fishfinger · 11/07/2005 15:40

dont like birds
all that flapping

CountessDracula · 11/07/2005 15:42

they can drink from the paddling pool in mine

hunkermunker · 11/07/2005 15:43

Birds don't like you either, Fish. All those fins.

Nbg · 11/07/2005 15:44

Any ideas what I could put some in.

Don't have a bird table or bath...

handlemecarefully · 11/07/2005 15:45

Old washing up bowl if you really must offer a drink the little blighters

okapi · 11/07/2005 15:46

I don't encourage birds in my garden because my cat keep killing them

hunkermunker · 11/07/2005 15:47

Birds eat flies and other such evil grubby things (slugs, snails, etc). Go on,. HMC and Fish, be kind to them

Nbg · 11/07/2005 15:47

Ah yes.

piffle · 11/07/2005 15:50

our fish pond is full of birds...

handlemecarefully · 11/07/2005 15:50

That may be so, but did you know that pigeons carry meningitis? Honestly. I remember reading that somewhere...

It's pigeons in my garden that I have the major beef with

okapi · 11/07/2005 15:52

don't bother with chickens HMC - -get a cat - that will keep the pigeons out

hunkermunker · 11/07/2005 15:52

Oh, not a fan of pigeons particularly. But sparrows, robins, starlings, blackbirds, wrens, pied wagtails, chaffinches, woodpeckers, jays...lovely.

Piffle...alive or dead birds? Tried to think of a delicate way to put taht...failed, as you can see!

lunachic · 11/07/2005 15:54

hate pidgeons too flying rats as someone one said but other birdies are nice and dont do much harm
