Our cooker has just broken! Should we buy a double or single oven?

We currently have a seperate oven and grill (gas) and I always thought a double oven would be useful.

However, given the urgency of this, and the lack of cash as it is January and i am now on maternity leave we need to buy cheap. We have seen an Indesit cooker on Ebay for £70, 4 months old, still has warranty, nothing wrong with it (move forces sale) it is local to us so we can collect it, it is buy it now so we can have it today. It is ideal and cheap, BUT it is a single oven/grill. DH said that is fine, as long as it works he does not care, but I am sure he will regret it once we buy it, he does most of the cooking though, so i am guessing he must know?

ooh hope you get it! sounds a bargain!!

fwiw, I bought a new cooker last year with a double oven and never ever use it, lol

It will be better than jamming a spoon into the dial of the current oven to keep it alight! We look like students, with an old crusty make shift oven! (oh to have a nice big shiney new one - dh is just not bothered about a fancy oven even though he is the cook! I told him i wouldcook more if we had a nice one!)

We nearly bought a dble oven - I'm so glad we didn't. I would only have needed it at Christmas, and then only if I cooked proper Xmas dinner, which I haven't done now for 3 years. Depends on how many big dinners you do I suppose, but for me wasn't worth the extra dosh just for a handful of special occasions. I suppose you could use the second oven as extra storage

I have a single oven, I only pine for a double at Christmas really.

oh good, that makes me feel better!

How about the fact that it has no seperate grill? It does have one, just combined with oven?

It depends how much you cook thb. I cook a lot so a single oven just wouldn't work for me.

I long for a double oven but don't have the space, single oven never seems to have enough space and can't use grill and oven at same time.

Double oven is on my wish list for kitchen in next house.

If you love your double oven, you'll hate having a single one.

I used to have a double oven, then when I sold my house I had to get rid of it as the house I'm renting has a built in cooker. It's a single oven and I hate it. I long for my beloved cooker back.
