I've decided to take extra special care of MYSELF...anyone want to join me??

Ok, life is a bit crap in lots of ways at the moment - so I have decided that I have to take better care of myself. I have neglected myself for far too long, and I would like to remedy this. I eat too much crap, I watch too much tv, and I MN too much !! I seem to be living a bit of a non life.

SO, I am going to learn new things - maybe pick a subject a month.

I am going to be more organised - I put things off all the time, and it just niggles at me all the time- I always feel so deficient when I have forgotten something or whatever.

I am going to excercise more. Not be a fanatic, just look after my health.

I am also going to spend more quality time with my kids. They are growing so fast and soon they won't want me. I have gone back to work recently, and I have realised that I am not spending enough fun time with them, and I feel terrible. Its like low level guilt that eats away at me

I am going to put more time aside for friends.

So those are some of my things. This will probably change!

Anyone want to join me...spend some time looking after YOURSELF - in whatever way is needed?

purpleduck, positive thoughts its yet another good idea! i've had an op on my knee so i'm on crutches at the moment. yesterday was the first day i haven't thrown them in frustration and it was all thanks to a bit of positive thinking. not taking the bait for an argument must have been hard and certainly an example i would do well to copy

eurgh but toffee ice cream eurgh!

purpleduck · 20/09/2009 22:11

I will ignore that below the belt insult on my lovely ice cream..because I am thinking lovely positive thoughts

How come you had to have an op?

OP posts:
miamla · 20/09/2009 22:18

you're a bad influence purpleduck! i've just raided the freezer for a choc ice (mil and DP both raising eyebrows at me because apparently its 'not like me to eat late')

just general stuff..arthritus, torn ligament, fluid and bits that shouldn't be there. quite bored with it all to be honest. Consultant told me i'd be weight bearing straight away but he lied, still can't put weight on it a week later. if i'd known i'd be on crutches this long i'd never have had it done but... mil staying with us for a week to help run around after DS so its not all bad. but we're thinking positive aren't we so i won't go on!

purpleduck · 20/09/2009 22:28

I think thats lovely your MIL is helping you out

OP posts:
bababelle · 20/09/2009 22:28

I'd like to join too please! I'm going to start RIGHT NOW by taking myself off to bed and getting enough sleep for once. I'll be back tomorrow with my ideas about what I'm going to do FOR ME!!

miamla · 20/09/2009 22:32

bababelle..going to bed would be a good idea for me too but mil pfaffing upstairs so i'm giving her a minute to settle and wake the baby

purpleduck..exactly, it is lovely... hopefully! i joked earlier when she arrived and said i was off to bed for the week then. She did say i could rest whenever i wanted to hey, you never know, i might get some sewing done this week because my knee WILL be ok very soon (see what i did there i threw in a little positive comment at the end!)

MitchyInge · 21/09/2009 09:12

good morning fellow self-improvers how is your Monday morning so far?

my house looks amazing (by my standards, still pretty damn scary to anyone else) after a surprise visit from my ex mother-in-law type thing - she caught me in the act of mucking the place out and joined in

have v little by way of work today so a perfect opportunity to catch up on laundry, might reward myself with a very very long hack later

comewalktheplankwithme · 21/09/2009 10:02

Hello can I join?
I have PND afer the birth of dd5 in May and have stopped looking after myself at all.
I broke down in tears yesterday and said "I spend all my time doing stuff for everyone else and nothing for myself".

Really need to get on top of things .

shinyshoes · 21/09/2009 10:11

hi can I join.

I seriously need a haircut

seriously need to cut the boozing, I have been entertaining far too much lately.

need to go back to drinking gallons of water again.

need to do some sort of night time beauty cream regime, my hands and skin are looking a little neglected , with the cold weather coming I want them to look good and looked after.

need to eat more fruit again and go back to having fruit and yoghurt for lunch instead of quick white bread sandwich or microwaved supernoodles .

purpleduck · 21/09/2009 10:13

Course you can join

Sorry to hear about your PND...so what are you going to do for YOU that makes you feel better?

comewalktheplankwithme · 21/09/2009 13:06

I don't know PD.

I love reading and writing and hardly do that anymore so think I will buy myself some new books.

I also need to buy some new clothes I basically have 2 outfits and still wear my maternity jeans. I could afford to buy myself clothes I just seem to have a mental block which makes me feel guilty if I buy myself anything.

I need to lose some weight I am a size 14 and want to get back down to a 12 I do eat quite well because I am bf but do need to knock all the chocolate on the head .
Will think and post a list of everything I need to do later.

miamla · 25/09/2009 22:47

hey, well done shinyshoes!

comewalktheplank and purpleduck, how've you both got on this week?

i forgot about mil being here all week and me being on crutches, both made sorting my wardrobe tricky but...... and can i have a drum roll please.... i've sorted my pantry instead (whilst mil hoover all of the carpets downstairs which was a result!!)

i've been really good on mn time this week but partly to do with mil being here but still, its a step in the right direction

i haven't had a chance to do any sewing this week but i have done a fair amount of knitting so not all bad

all in all i'd say its been a good positive week

ChunkyKitKat · 27/09/2009 18:43

Hello!

Can I join?

I am just in a mess domestically, I have drawers and wardrobe overflowing with stuff I don't wear any more. I think I would feel less confused generally if I sort it out.

Alot of weight to lose, the word diet just makes me eat more

I don't have a skin care routine and pay no attention to my appearance.

Would like to sort these things out!!

duckyfuzz · 27/09/2009 18:52

I have done this for the last couple of months and it has had a big impact on me, my outlook on life and my general tetchiness (or rather new found lack of!) I have stopped spending evenings watching nonsense on TV, drinking wine and eating crap, I've been applying body lotion daily, face masks regularly, drink more water and have lost weight, feel healthier and on Friday even my boss (not known for his insight!) commented on how well I looked, so do give it a go, it is worth it

purpleduck · 27/09/2009 19:16

Hi Miamla - Thanks for asking...I have had big plans - but I have realised that I need to think positive thoughts for awhile, THEN move on to some action

I have been trying to do things quicker - I'm so tired of feeling bad about letting things slide.

Actually - I've spent more time with the kids too. Maybe I havn't done so bad...

OP posts:
miamla · 28/09/2009 09:03

purpleduck... re time with the kids, thats great! and that was on your original list wasn't it? so well done! I reckon small steps are going to be more productive at this stage

i've got another op this week (i'm getting a bit of an MOT done on me at the moment!) so not sure how physically productive i'm going to be. Productive thoughts are my way forward as well. And the other thing i'm going to do is ask for help if i need it (not something i usually do )

A friend of mine was training to be a life coach a couple of years ago and used me as a guinea pig for his training. One of the things he suggested was pay yourself to do something you really don't like. For example, when i was living on my own i hated doing the washing up so, everytime i did it, i put a £1 in a pot. After a couple of weeks, i got my pounds together and put a new CD. i was quite surprised how well it worked.

miamla · 08/10/2009 21:42

seems we've all neglected this a bit!

positive thoughts not working too well but i'm still trying

i've kept on top of the daily clutter a bit better

i've got DP lined up to take full control of DS at the weekend so i've got time to attack my wardrobe and drawers without DS's help!

i'm still really enjoying the benefits of a tidy pantry! makes it so much easier to find stuff

purpleduck · 08/10/2009 21:50

Hi!
Glad you re-posted as I lost this thread

I have just been sticking with the positive thoughts, and trying to stay on top of things at work a bit more. I have gone to an exercise class (I HURT today!!) and was shocked at how out of shape I am.

Have you had your other op?

OP posts:
miamla · 08/10/2009 22:00

yup, it was on the 28th, all recovered now

well done for getting to an exercise class. i'm getting really fed up with my knee now but i did manage to drive yesterday for the first time in ages so i am getting there albeit slowly

argh, just seen the time...one of my resolutions is to get more sleep! i'm going to wander up to bed now
